The New England Patriots come to town looking to rebound from a Week 13 loss in Green Bay. We will know a whole lot more about both of these teams on Sunday night – it should be fun!

Patriots

The New England Patriots played a pretty good game in Week 13 but it wasn’t enough to overcome the white-hot Packers at Lambeau. The offense was just OK and the defense was unable to slow down Aaron Rodgers in the loss.

The Pats rarely lose in consecutive weeks – everyone on the planet is expecting a huge bounceback this week.

The New England offense struggled a tad last week but is still one of the most feared units in the NFL. No QB in the history of the NFL has a better winning percentage in December than Mr. Brady. Rob Gronkowski continues to be a force, Julian Edelman continues his knack of making huge catches and Brandon LaFell scored twice last week in the loss. LeGarrette Blount has made a huge difference in the running game – in two weeks since being re-signed he has 22 carries for 136 yards with 2 TDs. Not sure what to make the rest of the running game – either Shane Vereen or Jonas Gray, who has disappeared, will have to churn out some quality yards.

Translation – the Pats have a ton of options on offense – it is difficult to defend against them especially when you don’t know who is going to be featured!

Defensively the Pats had a difficult time containing Aaron Rodgers and company – all teams do at Lambeau.

That said Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner and company will be eager to prove that last week was the exception not the rule.

Chargers

The San Diego Chargers were impressive last week – they were the first Western team to win at Baltimore in the last 11 tries! Philip Rivers was absolutely masterful throwing for 383 yards and 3 TDs in the come-from-behind last minute 34-33 win. They enter Sunday’s clash on a three game win streak looking like a dark-horse in the AFC.

We have talked about Tom Brady’s success in December. Right behind him is Philip Rivers who seems to save his best for late-season runs. Rivers was able to find his top receiver Keenan Allen twice last week for scores – something that had sadly been lacking early in the season. Rivers also utilized Antonio Gates in key third down passing situations with great effectiveness. The San Diego passing game was able to exploit a banged up Ravens secondary last week but the task will be much tougher this week against Revis and the boys!

As good as Rivers has been this year, he has still thrown eight interceptions in his last six games.

Perhaps the most important player for the Bolts this week will be Ryan Matthews who struggled last week against Baltimore’s stout front. He is as fresh as any back in the game and will get a crack at a Pats defense that allowed 130 yards rushing to the Packers last week. Keeping Tom Brady off the field is key – controlling the clock will be up to Matthews and the running game.

Defensively San Diego has been a tad disappointing. They were susceptible against the run last week and they don’t perform all that well against top passing teams. Brandon Flowers has emerged as one of the better corners in the game but the rest of the secondary is thin and rather unflattering.

Brady and the boys are coming to town with a chip on their shoulders – the Chargers defense will likely be under siege.

NFL Week 14 Betting Trends

• NE are 0-9 ATS in their last 9 games on grass.
• Over is 46-19 in NE last 65 vs. AFC.
• NE are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 road games.
• SD are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 14.

No team in the NFL comes back after a loss better than Bill Bellichick’s squad – they have won nine straight after a loss!

NFL Week 14 Betting Prediction

Expect that trend to continue as the Pats have their way with an average Chargers defense and a fired up New England defense takes some frustrations out on Philip Rivers!

New England Patriots -3 1/2
