NFL Free Pick: Chicago vs. New York Betting Lines & Preview

NFL Odds: Bears vs Jets Pick

NFL Week 3 Regular Season action sees the Chicago Bears taking on the New York Jets on Monday, September 22 at MetLife Stadium. Cappers Picks provides free *NFL*handicapping tips all season long.

The Chicago Bears will look to build on an impressive Week 2 win over San Francisco when they take on the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. The Bears should be a confident bunch after a terrific come-from-behind road win in San Francisco while the Jets have to be questioning themselves just a bit after jumping out to an early lead and letting it slip away against Green Bay in Week 2. Injuries could be a big part of this Monday night matchup – both teams are banged up on both sides of the ball as they look to go 2-1 on the season.

Bears

How ‘bout dem Bears? They looked like a team destined to go 0-2 to start the season but put it all together in the fourth quarter last week, defeating a very good 49ers team in the process.

Jay Cutler was terrific and banged up receiver Brandon Marshall took his game to another level catching three TD passes.

That said Chicago’s offense didn’t look very good for three quarters of that game and ended with just 216 yards of total offense. The running game and Matt Forte gained 21 yards on 12 carries and the passing game generated under 200 yards. Credit San Francisco’s defense to an extent but also point to the injuries on the O-line – two starters were absent on Sunday and could be again this week.

With New York possessing a tremendously stout run defense expect the ball to be in Jay Cutler’s hands and his pass catchers to be a bit healthier – unlike last week when the passing game as a whole looked out of sync. The extra days rest will likely do wonders for Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey who get to go up against a decimated Jets secondary.

Defensively the Bears have been OK this season – maybe better than most expected, But this unit has its share of injuries as well. Defensive backs Sherrick McManis, Charles Tillman, and Chris Conte were all lost to injury Sunday night – yikes. It’s a good thing for rookie Kyle Fuller who had two of Chicago’s three interceptions against Colin Kaepernick – he at least gives the Bears some sense of optimism this week.

Jets

The New York Jets played a good game against the Packers last week only to lose. Up 21-3 at one point, everything went well until Aaron Rodgers caught fire and threw for 346 yards and three TDs – 209 of those passing yards going to Jordy Nelson.

With the aerial attack of the Bears coming to town, the Jets have to be more than just a little concerned that their Achilles heel – the secondary may be overmatched in this one.

New York’s run defense continues to be a strength – they allowed just 88 yards on the ground to Eddie Lacy and the Packers last week.

Expect the Bears to abandon the run however and attack a sketchy secondary all game long.

Offensively New York has exceeded all expectation thus far. The team currently has a league best 358 yards rushing and now gets a crack at a Bears front that has struggled against the run.

The Jets will likely lean heavily on their rushers – Erik Decker is still hampered by a hamstring injury and will be less than 100% and Geno Smith has been anything but spectacular thus far.

NFL Week 3 Betting Trends:

• Over is 13-3 in CHI last 16 road games.
• CHI are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
• CHI are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Mon. games.
• Over is 15-2 in NYJ last 17 games in Week 3.

The Bears showed last week that they can win the tough games on the road – I like them to continue this week. They simply have too many weapons for the Jets to contain. A patchwork secondary is no match for Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffrey and Martellus Bennett.

In a terrifically entertaining game take the road underdog to prevail.
