The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers lock horns once again – both trying to catch the surprise Detroit Lions atop of the NFC North standings and both needing a win just to stay in the playoff picture. Both teams are coming off their bye-week and both absolutely need a victory in what should be an intriguing contest Sunday night.

Bears

The Chicago Bears entered their bye week on the heels of consecutive losses in which they didn’t look great on either side of the ball – the team has lost four of their last five heading into Week 10. Bickering in the locker room, poor defensive execution and some unflattering play from Jay Cutler has the Bears staring WAY up in the standings after eight games.

Everyone in the organization needs to be better – from the top down – just ask Brandon Marshall!

Jay Cutler is getting the lion’s share of the blame – his inability to get the ball to two huge, stud receivers has a lot of fingers pointing directly at him. But Cutler hasn’t been that bad statistically – he is averaging 261 yards passing per game, he is completing over 67% of his passes and he has thrown 17 TDs to go along with 8 interceptions.

Those interceptions seem to be uber-costly – the Bears have lost seven straight games when he throws at least one interception. But Brandon Marshall has just 83 combined yards in his last three games – maybe he could take some of the blame.

Or how about a defense that has allowed 78 points the last two games?

The team is near the bottom of the NFL in a number of different categories – they surrender 27.8 points per game and 372 yards per game – not nearly good enough for a team that was looking to take a step forward this year.

The Bears would be wise to feature Matt Forte this week – he has been terrific versus the Packers – he had 256 combined yards when these two teams met in Week 4 and was top 10 in the NFL in rushing and second in second in receptions in the NFL before the bye.

Cutler on the other hand has struggled mightily against Green Bay – he is 0-7 in his last seven starts versus his rival and has averaged nearly 2.5 interceptions per game in those contests. When Cutler throws an interception, the Bears lose – period!

Packers

The bye couldn’t have come at a better time for the Green Bay Packers – it allowed Aaron Rodgers to heel a hamstring that he obviously tweaked in their Week 8 win over New Orleans. Rodgers has emerged as an MVP candidate with his play as of late to nobody’s surprise and will be gunning again Sunday night.

He has thrown 19 TDs in Green Bay’s eight games with just three picks and he has 11 total TDs in his last three games overall. Rodgers threw for 302 yards and 4 TDs in the first matchup of the season and off a bye is expected to pick up right where he left off.

Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and an emerging Davante Adams will likely wreak havoc once again and Eddie Lacy could be in for a big game as well. Lacy has steadily improved this season and gets a crack at a Bears defense that has been gashed of late.

The bye also helped the Packers defense to heel up. Cornerbacks Sam Shields and Morgan Burnett should be back in the lineup this week which takes a ton of pressure off of rookie Ha-Ha Clinton Dix who looked a tad out of place with an expanded roll.

Look for former Bear Julius Peppers to come out strong and for Clay Matthews to be his regular self Sunday.

NFL Week 10 Betting Trends

• Over is 8-2 in CHI last 10 games on grass.
• Over is 19-7 in CHI last 26 games overall.
• Over is 19-7 in CHI last 26 road games.
• GB are 36-16 ATS in their last 52 vs. NFC North.
• Favorite is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
• Under is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings.

Bears fans must be beside themselves seeing their beloved team falling out of the playoff race and being sent off as a seven point underdog. That said, my guess is that Matt Forte becomes the centerpiece of the offence again as he should and the Bears keep this game close.

NFL Week 10 Betting Prediction

Although the Bears are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against the Pack, I think seven points is too much to ask.

4* Free Play On The Packers to win but the Bears to cover the 7 points
