The AFC may be the weaker of the two conferences this year, but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s any less entertaining. This final stretch will be an exciting one as six teams are tied with 7-5 records and clinging to the final playoff spots. One of those six is the Buffalo Bills who have been a very solid team for most of this season.

The Bills will get a tough test on Sunday when Peyton Manning and the Broncos come to town.Denver can all but lock up the AFC West this week with a win, coupled with a San Diego loss to New England. There’s a lot riding on this one for both teams so let’s take a look at how they match up this week.

Broncos

The visitors came into this season as an odd on favourite to run away with the AFC. While the Broncos have looked invincible at times this year, there have been some missteps and they’ve shown some signs of slowing down of late.

Denver got a huge win last week on the road against their division rivals from Kansas City. The scoreline of 29-16 looks pretty convincing but the Broncos were far from dominant. Manning had a pretty ho-hum day with just 179 yards passing while completing just 17 of 34 attempts. The future Hall of Fame QB did manage two first quarter touchdown passes but the offense stalled after that. The Broncos had to settle for five field goals from in the red zone and another from just outside of it.

This was not the Denver team from earlier this season, where any trip inside the 20 was almost a guaranteed seven points. The Chiefs do boast a pretty solid defense and pass rush, but so do the Bills and one can argue that Buffalo’s offense is better than the Chiefs’ so Manning and the Broncos will need to turn those red zone trips into TDs.

Bills

This is very much a make or break game for Buffalo who find themselves in a playoff race with just four games remaining in the season. Going into Denver is a tough out for anyone and Buffalo will have to be near perfect if they want to come out with a win or even just keep it close.

If there’s one constant with the Bills it’s that they always seem to find ways to disappoint their fans and this seems like one of those games where they will have a let down. The Bills bounced back nicely after a poor showing against Miami in week 11 with two straight wins over the New York Jets and Cleveland, the latter being one of the five other teams they are locked in a tie with at 7-5.

So what does that amount to? The Bills restored some faith for the time being, on to a statement game, which usually means they fall on their faces. Way back in week 6 the Bills came in with a 3-2 records against a Patriots team that was looking beatable and had the same 3-2 record. Buffalo was at home and had a chance to take charge of the division and were promptly beat up to the tune of 37-22. These are your Buffalo Bills.

Week 14 Bills vs. Broncos 4* Free Pick

This just feels like a game where the Bills are due to fall flat and get hammered. Manning had an off week last week and that usually means he’ll go off in his next game. Buffalo has not performed well this season in statement games against legitimate competition. With Green Bay coming up next week for Buffalo and a trip to New England to close out the season looming, this is where the wheels fall off and the Bills ultimately finish the season 8-8 and miss the playoffs again.

This looks like a blowout for Denver, take the Broncos to win big.
