Free Divisional Round Playoffs Weekend NFL Totals Predictions

Its divisional playoffs weekend of the 2009 NFL season and we pick and preview all of the 2010 NFL playoff matchups from an OVER/Under NFL betting perspective this season…

NFL Divisional Playoffs Betting Preview

Only one game was really wild during wildcard weekend as the other three were never really close. Dallas was the only favorite to win last week and along with two road dogs; New York and Baltimore and one home dog; Arizona they are all advancing to the next round.

All four games went over their total, especially the Packers at the Cardinals which set a record for most combined points scored in a playoff game at 96.

The top seeds join the party this week in what should be another round of possible upsets and surprises.

Below is a brief preview of each game along with the current odds as supplied by MySportsbook.com.

Saturday, January 16th

4:30 P.M

Arizona Cardinals@ New Orleans Saints (-7)
Current Over/Under 57

After last week’s incredible performance by Arizona QB Kurt Warner you have to wonder if he will have anything left for this game. His 154.1 passer rating and 88% completion percentage were some of the highest numbers in playoff history. Despite throwing for 379 yards and 5 TD’s the Cardinals still almost lost this game. To have any chance to beat the Saints their defense will have to force New Orleans to punt more than once. I’m sensing another shootout, but this time the Cardinals are on the losing end. I’m going with the Saints and the OVER.

8:00 P.M

Baltimore Ravens@ Indianapolis Colts (-6.5)
Current Over/Under 44.5

Baltimore’s defense is back playing at a high level as LB’s Terrell Suggs and Ray Lewis made Tom Brady’s life a living hell last week. Their job this week will be made a bit more difficult with the reigning four time league MVP Peyton Manning behind center. You have to remember that Indianapolis won every game they tried to and a little time off will not be enough to derail this team. Baltimore is good enough to keep this one close, but not good enough to win. I’ll take the Ravens and the points in a game that stays UNDER.

Sunday, January 17th

1:00 P.M.

Dallas Cowboys@ Minnesota Vikings (-2.5)
Current Over/Under 46

Everyone and their mother have jumped on the Dallas bandwagon after they beat New Orleans in week 15 and their back to back thumping of Philadelphia. Everyone has jumped off Minnesota’s wagon after they lost three out of their last five games. What everyone is forgetting is that those three losses were on the road and that the Vikings are 8-0 and have been almost unstoppable at home. I’ll still take a 40 year old Brett Favre over Tony Romo any day when it comes to winning big games. I’m all over the Vikings and the OVER.

4:40

New York Jets@ San Diego Chargers (-7.5)
Current Over/Under 42.5

This will be an intriguing match-up between New York’s dominant defense and San Diego’s explosive offense. The key lies in Charger QB Philip River’s ability to buy some time in the pocket and to find the open receiver not covered by Jet All Pro CB Darrelle Revis. I was impressed with New York’s performance last week, but that was against the Bengals and unfortunately they are playing San Diego, a team that hasn’t lost a game since October. I like the Chargers and the OVER in this one.

Fun and games are over as we head into the second round of the playoffs. The point spreads are a bit higher to tempt you one way or the other, the totals are a bit finer tuned as to make you question whether the game will be a shootout or a defensive struggle. This is probably the best week all year in the NFL so do your homework before making your picks, then sit back and enjoy the action.
