The Denver Broncos are 2-3 but look at the teams they’ve played! They have gone up against the Steelers, the Falcons, the Texans, the Raiders and the Patriots – not exactly a cake walk. Denver is fifth in the NFL in passing – 288 yards per game and they have the 17th ranked running game.

Peyton Manning is starting to find his form and the Broncos are using Willis McGahee effectively so far this season.

Denver’s problem has been on defense. They are 11th against the pass and 21st versus the run – 120.20 yards per game. They give up 350 total yards per game and if you take out the Oakland game, they give up 27 points per game – not good enough. Peyton deserves some support!

The San Diego Chargers are 3-2 and it seems that they haven’t played their best game yet. It has been improved defense that has made a difference on this team this year – they are 5th against the run allowing just 74 yards per game.

The pass defense has been average but the run stopping has really contributed to this overall unit.

San Diego’s offense has been plodding along – they own the 19th ranked passing game and the 16th ranked running game. Antonio Gates has been invisible and Philip Rivers seems to have no clear cut favorite receiving options. They are out of sync but will get better for sure. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

A healthy Ryan Matthews is a real help to the 16th ranked running game. He is explosive and is a real difference maker. His presence in the lineup makes the Chargers a whole lot better.

Betting Prediction:

  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Denver’s last 5 games on the road
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Denver’s last 7 games
  • Denver is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games when playing on the road against San Diego
  • Denver is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games when playing on the road against San Diego
  • San Diego is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing Denver
  • The total has gone UNDER in 11 of San Diego’s last 14 games at home
  • San Diego is 17-7 SU in its last 24 games at home
  • San Diego is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games

This is one of the more interesting matchups of Week 6. On the one hand you have to love what Peyton Manning, Willis McGahee and the balanced Denver offense brings to this game.

On the other hand you can’t help thinking that Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates and Ryan Matthews are due for a big game.

What it all boils down to? I trust Peyton more than I trust Philip Rivers.

Pick: Denver Broncos +1
