NFL Divisional Previews – 2012 NFC East Betting Breakdown

The Giants won the NFC East and the Super Bowl last season, but the Eagles have the best odds this season. The Cowboys are still in the mix according to the oddsmakers and the Redskins gave up a lot to land Robert Griffin III and Washington fans are hoping he is a legit QB, which is what the team has lacked in several seasons.

NFC East Team Pages

Dallas
N.Y. Giants
Philadelphia
Washington

Philadelphia Eagles

Odds To Win NFC East 2.55
Odds To Win Super Bowl 15.00

Last season the Eagles got off to a horrible start, but finished hot to end the season 8-8. They locked up their young stars of RB LeSean McCoy and WR DeSean Jackson to long term contracts and Michael Vick is still under center and must stay healthy for the Eagles to win the division. The offense was not the problem last season, but the defense was. They drafted DT Fletcher Cox in the first round and LB DeMeco Ryans signed as a free agent. On defense they were much more aggressive in the last 4 games on the season, which they won, and if they can play like that again Philly should be THE team to beat in the NFC East.

Eagles NFC East Prediction – The “Dream Team” is in year 2 and even with a lot of pressure on head coach Andy Reid I think the Eagles will win the tough NFC East.

New York Giants

Odds To Win NFC East 3.10
Odds To Win Super Bowl 24.00

The Giants won it all last season, but are not getting much love as this season approaches. They did lose Brandon Jacobs, but Eli Manning is still under cent and WR Mario Manningham, and Victor Cruz have emerged as one of the best young tandems in the league. WR Hakeem Nicks is set to return in mid August from his injury and the passing offense should not be a problem in the Big Apple. Jason Pierre-Paul, Osi Umenyiora, and Justin Tuck lead a formidable front line defense, but the secondary is still a big concern. First round pick David Wilson will team up with Ahmad Bradshaw and help to improve upon a rushing offense that ranked dead last in the league last season.

Giants NFC East Prediction – The Giants will be solid again, but while I think they have a chance at a Wild Card they will not win the NFC East. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Dallas Cowboys

Odds To Win NFC East 3.60
Odds To Win Super Bowl 31.00

The Cowboys have decent odds, but can Tony Romo ever lead America’s Team to the Big Game? RB DeMarco Murray was hurt after a great rookie campaign and he needs to stay healthy and help Romo out on offense. Dallas still has their top 2 pass catching targets in TE Jason Witten and WR Dez Bryant, but WR Laurent Robinson left as a free agent. The Cowboys broke the bank to bring in CB Brandon Carr and they drafted DB Morris Claiborne after moving up in the draft and if these guys can improve the Dallas secondary the Cowboys have a legit shot to win the NFC East.

Cowboys NFC East Prediction – The Cowboys have the talent, but Romo can’t get it done when it counts and that will happen again this season. Like the Giants the Cowboys may snag a Wild Card, but the NFC East crown? Mot likely.

Washington Redskins

Odds To Win NFC East 15.00
Odds To Win Super Bowl 81.00

The RG3 era has begun in Washington and he has a lot of pressure this season. He is athletic and he will have to show that since the Skins’ offensive line is not very good. Tim Hightower, Roy Helu, and Evan Royster are a solid RB trio, but none of these guys are stars. Griffin has a decent WR corps in Santana Moss, Pierre Garcon, and Josh Morgan and their TE duo in Fred Davis and Chris Cooley need to stay on the field, which they could not do last season. The defense was decent last season and since they did not make any big moves on that side of the ball they will be mediocre again.

Redskins NFC East Prediction – RG3 will have a good rookie season, but he will also make some mistakes. Still, the Redskins will be better than last season when they were 5-11 and I see a .500 season this time around.
