NFL betting is back to being the be-all, end-all for sports bettors now that baseball is put to bed. Week 9 should give us a little bit of everything; here’s a blowout, a close matchup and a shocker to consider with your NFL picks this week.

PACKERS (-9.5) over BUCCANEERS

Here’s your lock of the week. Don’t get scared because the Packers broke your heart and eliminated you from your Survival pool against Cincy in Week 2. Halfway through the season, we have a much better idea of what each team brings to the table. What Tampa Bay brings is, well, garbage. The Bucs don’t run the ball well enough to gouge the Packers up the gut and their passing game shouldn’t do a thing with Josh Freeman making his NFL debut. The Packer pass defense forces turnovers against weak teams and should do the same against Tampa. It’s also scary to wonder what MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers will do to a defense allowing 376.4 total yards per game.

GIANTS (-4.5) over CHARGERS

Just 1-3 against teams with winning records this season, the Giants are giving sportsbook players reason to panic of late. The injuries to the secondary are catching up and Eli Manning is suddenly struggling despite the emergence of Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith as reliable downfield targets. NFL Picks: Parlay Of The Week A matchup with the Chargers, however, should remedy New York’s problems. San Diego allows 132.1 rushing yards per game, the worst mark among teams with winning records. The Chargers’ four wins also came against Oakland (twice), Miami and Kansas City. These guys are pretenders and the Giants should run for 200 yards against them on Sunday.

PANTHERS (-13) over SAINTS

Hear me out. I’m not saying Carolina will beat New Orleans; I’m saying it will beat the astronomical spread. The Panthers faced the Cardinals’ NFL-leading rush defense (at the time) last week and racked up 270 yards on the ground. Now they face a reeling Saints “D” missing Sedrick Ellis, its best run stopper. Michael Turner exploited Ellis’ absence last Monday, running for 151 yards. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart thus have a chance for similar success. Naturally, Drew Brees and especially the running game should put a hurt on the Panthers, but let’s remember that Carolina ranks No. 1 in the league against the pass – after facing Donovan McNabb, Tony Romo, Matt Ryan and Kurt Warner. This game will be closer than many online betting fans expect.
