NFL Football Previews – Baltimore Ravens vs Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans couldn’t squeak by the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. If they had that much trouble with Jacksonville, do they have a prayer against a Baltimore Ravens team that tossed Pittsburgh aside like it was nothing last week?

Baltimore Ravens (1-0)

Is there anything bad to possibly say about Baltimore’s effort last week? The practically played a perfect game against the Steelers.

Joe Flacco sailed crisp passes into his receivers hands all game long, connecting for three touchdowns. Ray Rice showed burst and versatility out of the backfield, finishing with 107 rushing yards, 42 receiving yards and two total scores.

Defensively, the Ravens made short work of a potent Pittsburgh attack. Their front seven harassed Ben Roethlisberger, sacking him four times and forcing three interceptions. The Ravens also forced four fumbles. Yep, Pittsburgh turned the ball over seven times.

Tennessee Titans (0-1)

Losing to Jacksonville by just two points was frustrating enough for Tennessee but Titans fans had to be particularly annoyed with the team’s playcalling. Yes, they had to throw after they fell behind 13-0, but that still didn’t justify Tennessee only giving Chris Johnson nine carries. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Maybe they didn’t want to rush him into heavy duty after his holdout? Who knows? Expect the Titans to give Johnson 20-plus touches this time around.

Matt Hasselbeck looked OK in his first game as the Titans’ starting quarterback but it’s important to know that the Jaguars’ pass rush is kitten-like. And even they still sacked him twice. Hasselbeck should have roughly half the time to throw that he had last week.

Jacksonville at N.Y. Gambling Trends:

BAL are 14-5 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
Under is 12-5-1 in BAL last 18 games on grass.
Under is 11-5-1 in BAL last 17 road games.
Under is 11-3 in TEN last 14 games in Week 2.
TEN are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games on grass.
TEN are 4-12 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings.
Underdog is 16-5 ATS in their last 21 meetings.

The pick:

Considering what Baltimore did to Pittsburgh last week, and that Tennessee is weaker in almost every area, Week 2 should be a breeze for the Ravens. If Flacco can beat the Steelers’ secondary he can handle Tennessee’s; if Baltimore could swallow Big Ben whole, I can’t imagine what they’ll do to the creaky Hasselbeck.

Even if Chris Johnson does a whole lot more this week, I doubt it’ll be enough to help Tennessee win.
