Atlanta Falcons vs. Indianapolis Colts Preview
There is still half a season to go and Manning still wants to play and they could sure use him under center to pick up a listless offense.
The Falcons (4-3) have won 2 straight and 3 of their last 4 after a slow start and they are back in the NFC South race with the Saints (5-3) and the Buccaneers (4-3), who face each other this Sunday. NFL lines have the Falcons as a 7-point away favorites in this non-conference game with a total of 44.5.
In their last games the Falcons beat the Detroit Lions 23-16 a couples weeks back with a bye last Sunday and the Colts lost to the Tennessee Titans 27-10.
Manning out is a major loss, but the Colts’ defense has really struggled ranking 31st in total defense (402.9 yards per game), 32nd in scoring defense (31.5 points per game) and tied for 30th with 12 sacks. That is not good at all since the Falcons have seemed to find their stride and Michael Turner has rushed for over 120 yards in his last 2 games. He is the key, as if he can run the ball QB Matt Ryan does not have to do it all. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
Ryan has the WR’s of Roddy White and Julio Jones as his main targets and while the Atlanta passing offense is good the Colts need to concentrate on containing Turner.
Colts’ QB Curtis Painter will get the start under center and in his last 3 games he has been less than stellar averaging 168.3 passing yards with a TD and four picks. However, he has a chance to have a good game facing an Atlanta pass defense that only ranks 23rd in the league.
The Colts’ rushing offense is not helping Painter out much and the RB duo of Delone Carter and Joseph Addai may have a hard time doing that again since the strength of the Atlanta D is defending the run ranking 7th in the league.
The Colts have already matched their loss total of the last 2 seasons and can they get on track facing a Falcons’ team that is playing well on both sides of the ball? Don’t count on it.
