NFC East

  • Philadelphia 6/1
  • New York 10/1
  • Dallas 11/1
  • Washington 28/1

This could be the most wide-open division in the NFL with three of the four teams all on fairly equal ground to win the East this season. The Eagles appear to have the over-all edge, but they will need to keep Michael Vick healthy to reclaim the title after an 8-8 downturn in 2011.

New York has to avoid the dreaded Super Bowl hang-over after going just 9-7 in the regular season last year and Dallas has to avoid another late-season crash that cost it a chance to return to the postseason. The Robert Griffin III-era is underway in Washington, but it may take another season or two before the Redskins join this race.

NFC North

  • Green Bay 7/2
  • Chicago 17/2
  • Detroit 11/1
  • Minnesota 70/1

All Green Bay needs to do is play to its potential and it should be a lock to not only win the division and conference, but the Super Bowl as well. Chicago has quickly closed the gap with an offense that should be able to put some serious points on the board, but a nagging knee injury to Brian Urlacher could become a season-long issue on defense.

Detroit’s many off-field issues could spill into the regular season and cause the team to take a step backwards after last year’s 10-6 run. Minnesota remains in a complete rebuilding mode with its best player, running back Adrian Peterson, still rehabbing his knee. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

NFC South

  • New Orleans 9/1
  • Atlanta 12/1
  • Carolina 18/1
  • Tampa Bay 35/1

This is another division that could remain up for grabs deep into the season. New Orleans will need and most likely get another huge effort from quarterback Drew Brees, but Atlanta appears to be a bit more well- rounded on both sides of the ball heading into this season.

The sleeper in the South could be Carolina if Cam Newton continues to develop at quarterback and the Panthers’ defense improves upon its 28th overall ranking in the NFL. Tampa Bay took a major step backwards last season with a 10-game losing streak to close-out the year, so it’s hard to know what to expect from this team in 2012.

NFC West

  • San Francisco 11/2
  • Arizona 28/1
  • Seattle 30/1
  • St. Louis 40/1

San Francisco won the West with ease last year at 13-3, but it will not have the luxury of sneaking-up on anyone this season. Fortunately for 49ers fans, the gap with everyone else in the division is still pretty wide.

If Kevin Kolb or John Skelton can step-up in Arizona, the Cardinals still have enough weapons to make things interesting. Seattle is still searching for its quarterback, with quite a bit of unproven talent at that position.

This will also be a key season for Sam Bradford in St. Louis, as the third-year quarterback will look to recover from a lost season in which the team plummeted to 2-14.
