NFL Week 15 Preview

As the teams head into the final weeks of the 2010-11 NFL season, there will plenty of jockeying for position as well as a few requests for some early gifts from St. Nick. Here I take a look at all of this week’s matchups, giving you some early insight that will help make your 2010 NFL wagers winners.

THU, DEC 16 TIME (ET)

San Francisco at San Diego 8:20 PM NFL –This game is very much like a playoff game as both of teams need the win to keep pace in their divisions. While these teams can move the ball, they both have strong defenses and some of the best defensive stars in the game with Willis, Phillips, and Weddle. With San Francisco’s run stoppers being that much better than the Bolts’, the 49ers could win this one on the road.

SUN, DEC 19 TIME (ET)

Cleveland at Cincinnati 1:00 PM CBS – This is the final meeting of the season between these two rivals. While this game doesn’t mean a lot in the standings, the Browns can help the Bengals’ chances at the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft. Cleveland won the first one and my money is on the repeat.

Washington at Dallas 1:00 PM FOX –The Redskins will need to bring their A game to this one if they want to beat the Cowboys in their house. The Dallas defense shouldn’t have any problems containing the Washington rush. This should be another low scoring divisional game with the last four totals of games between these two have been 24, 13, 17, and 20.

Houston at Tennessee 1:00 PM CBS– Yet, another late season divisional match that doesn’t really have any potential playoff ramifications. The Texans should expect a healthy injection of RB Chris Johnson. If Houston can counter with a solid passing game, they could expose a much frailer Titan’s secondary.

Jacksonville at Indianapolis 1:00 PM CBS – Who’d have thought this late in the season the Colt’s would be fighting for their postseason lives. Better yet how about the Jags leading the AFC South. The biggest question here is, can the Colt’s base 4-3 that ranked 26th in 2009, contain the likes of Jags’ RB Maurice Jones-Drew. Probably not. I think taking the points is the play here.

Kansas City at St. Louis 1:00 PM CBS – Probably one of St. Louis’ better opportunities for a win this season at the “ED.” If the Rams’ defense can put pressure on Cassel and keep RB Jamaal Charles from ripping off huge chunks of yardage, they can win this game. Both teams need a win to stay ahead in the division so this should be a fun game to watch.

Buffalo at Miami 1:00 PM CBS –Two teams trying not to end up last in the division. Both are coming off Week 14 wins. The Bills can be dangerous, so the Fins will have to be alert. We’ll at least the games not in Buffalo in December.

Detroit at Tampa Bay 1:00 PM FOX – This is one more game the Lions could snatch on the road. Josh Freeman–meet Ndamukong Suh.

Arizona at Carolina 1:00 PM FOX –
The Cardinals snapped its seven game losing streak by smacking around AFC West Nancy boy Denver. I just can’t believe the odds gods have Carolina as 3-point favorites. Take the Cards and the give the points here. betED
New Orleans at Baltimore 1:00 PM FOX – Earlier in the season I thought this could be a preview of Super Bowl XLV. Ray Lewis and Co. against the reigning champs. The Raven’s will try using their suffocating defense to drive a stake through the heart of an unpredictable New Orleans team that might be peaking at the right time. This will be a dogfight. Can defense really win championships? I say yes –Ravens.
Philadelphia at NY Giants 1:00 PM FOX – The Eagles will make their first trip to the new Meadowlands with their second stop on a tough divisional road trip. This should be a hard-hitting battle and both teams will be sending its pass rush. Philly took the first meeting the City of Brotherly Love, but I expect the Giants to pull out a slim win by a field goal in this one.
Atlanta at Seattle 4:05 PM FOX – The Falcons will head west to finish off a two game road stint. Is the Curse of 370 for real? We’ll see. Seattle is fighting for a playoff spot while Atlanta has already cemented its place in the postseason. Falcons rob the Hawks at the Q.

NY Jets at Pittsburgh 4:15 PM CBS – Two of the league’s best defenses will have their way with two of the NFL’s most inconsistent offenses as Sanchez seems to have lost it and Roethlisberger is taking a beating in the pocket. Look for the Steelers to eke out the win at home.

Denver at Oakland 4:15 PM CBS –Denver found out firsthand what the Raiders are capable of back in October, getting pummeled 59-14. Denver’s woes continued suffering through a 43-13 blowout against woeful Arizona last week. Teams like Oakland run over Denver’s 31st ranked rush defense, and this week should be no different.

Green Bay at New England 8:20 PM NBC –Both teams are accustomed to the cold so neither team will have the advantage in what could be a frosty affair. If the Packers want to win this one, they will need to sever the connection between the Pats’ Tom Brady and his receivers, forcing New England to go to the ground game – a place where Green Bay may be better able to compete.

MON, DEC 20 TIME (ET)

Chicago at Minnesota 8:30 PM – Two teams heading in opposite directions for sure. I’m not sure if this will be worth a Monday-nighter. The Bears will be happy to be playing indoors in late December and will use its second ranked run stoppers to quash any dignity the Vikings have left.
