Last year, USC Trojans was one game away from an undefeated regular season and chance at a National Championship. That one loss? At Oregon State. The Trojans look to return the favor when the Beavers visit Saturday night, under the bright lights of the Los Angeles Coliseum.

The Trojans season has started out like so many others in recent years. They are dominating out of conference competition, with wins already at Notre Dame and Ohio State, but have stumbled in conference play, losing at Washington in Week 3 of the season.

Last week’s win in South Bend however, may be the start of a turn-around, as it was the first time that quarterback Matt Barkley looked comfortable under center. The true freshman threw for a career-high 380 yards and two touchdowns in the win. While the performance was phenomenal, it’s hard to imagine Barkley having a repeat performance Saturday evening, as the 380 yards were close to 100 more than his previous career-high.

Defensively, the Trojans are again not only one of the top teams in the Pac-10, but also nationwide. They give up just 11 points per game, good for 5 th in college football, and just 260 yards per contest, good for 8 th. They also allow only 67 yards per game on the ground, the place where Oregon State Beavers will look to attack them Saturday.

Speaking of Oregon State, after a slow start, the Beavers are making their annual October and November climb up the Pac-10 standings. After starting the season 2-2, the Beavers have won their last two games, and are getting the Trojans off a bye week.

Oregon State is led by the dynamic offensive duo of brothers James and Jacquizz Rodgers. Jacquizz is the team’s primary rusher, as he has accounted for almost 700 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season, while brother James is the leading receiver with 43 catches at a staggering 12.7 yards per completion.

However for the Beavers, the problem continues to be that unfortunately, other team’s offenses are just as explosive as theirs. On the year, Oregon State is giving up 373 yards per game (77 th in college football), and the passing defense has been especially bad, as it is ranked 115 th out of 120 teams in college football.

So now the question is, will USC exact their revenge on Oregon State? The key will be slowing down Oregon State’s offense early, as they’ve scored 52 points combined in the first half of their last two games.

While I think USC gets the win, Oregon State is playing superb football right now. I expect the Beavers to come into the L.A. Coliseum and keep things close. Take Oregon State getting three touchdowns in the BetUS.com college football betting odds.

Pick: Oregon State +21
