One of the nation’s highest scoring offenses will battle with one of its most stingy defenses when the Texas Tech Red Raiders travel to Lincoln to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers Saturday.

Nebraska is coming off their most thrilling wins of the season last Thursday. In that game, the Cornhuskers trailed 12-0 going into the fourth quarter, but intercepted two passes and scored 27 unanswered points to shock the Missouri Tigers on the road.

They return home to take on a Texas Tech that could give their stingy defense problems. On the year, Nebraska has given up just an average of eight points per game, which is currently ranked second in all of college football, behind only the Florida Gators. The group is led by All-American defensive tackle and future NFL superstar Ndamukong Suh. Suh, actually led the Cornhuskers comeback charge a week ago, with an early fourth quarter interception which led to a touchdown.

As for Nebraska’s offense, it is considered one of the best in the country, however that needs to be taken with a little grain of salt, as the Nebraska Cornhuskers have played Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Florida Atlantic already, not quite the Big XII caliber defense Texas Tech will bring to Lincoln.

The leader of the offense is senior quarterback Zac Lee who has thrown for over 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He is joined in the backfield by one of the Big XII’s best running backs in Roy Helu Jr., who already has two 100-yard rushing games this season. It is important to note that backup running back, Rex Burkhead is not expected to play Saturday because of a foot injury.

As for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, they come into this game with a bit of uncertainty at quarterback, as Shane Sheffield started in place of the injured Taylor Potts last week, and exceeded expectations, throwing for 490 yards and an unbelievable seven touchdowns. Potts is expected to be available to play this weekend, although it is unsure of how Mike Leach plans to use his quarterbacks.

There is no doubt that strategically speaking may be the most interesting matchup of the weekend. We all know that Texas Tech wants to throw the ball around, it really doesn’t matter who’s at quarterback. But will the Red Raiders be able to that against the Cornhuskers, who haven’t given up 300 yards of total offense to their opponents since Week 1 of this season.

There’s no doubt that Nebraska is back under second year coach Bo Pelini. While the Cornhuskers have covered every spread this season though, it’s hard to imagine them scoring 10 more points than Texas Tech. Take the Red Raiders this week in the college football betting odds.
