Cal will try to end its road drought this weekend in Corvallis, as the team remains winless away from Memorial Stadium.

The Golden Bears however, have won all four of its home games this season including a 50-17 rout of Arizona State last weekend.

Likewise, the Oregon State Beavers remain undefeated at Reser Stadium this season and will look to rebound from a disappointing 35-34 double-overtime loss at Washington in Week 7. The loss ended a two-game win streak for the Beavs.

Trailing 21-0, the Beavers rallied sending the game into not one, but two overtime periods. Then in a bold, or stupid move, OSU head coach Bill Riley elected to go for the win with a two-point conversion, but QB Ryan Katz’s pass fell incomplete as Washington survived.

Katz turned in another solid performance despite being without No. 1 receiver James Rodgers. The sophomore surprisingly struggled against the Huskies competing just 17 of 31 passing attempts for 206 yards, and threw three interceptions, including one in the end zone in the third quarter when the Beavers appeared ready to take the lead.

Katz had just one interception entering Saturday night, and had been averaging 219 YPG. He did however add his first rushing TD of the season, bringing his total to 10 TDs on the year.

Running back Jaquizz Rodgers again played much larger than his 5-7 frame running for 140 yards and three TDs, while also catching four passes for 49 yards and another score. He has now eclipsed 3,300 career-yards and 42 touchdowns, with 12 total TDs this campaign.

Rodgers wrecks havoc on any defense, and the G-Bears D will be no exception.

Defensively, Cal has had some gaffes, but for the most part, the unit has been good. They are holding opponents to just 114 rushing and 187 passing YPG, while recording 15 takeaways and 19 sacks.

Last weekend, the defense held Arizona State’s offense to just 234 total yards and a field goal, allowing Cal’s offense to go to work.

QB Kevin Riley led the way throwing for 240 yards and a pair of TDs, while WR Marvin Jones went for 110 yards and a TD on four catches. Tailback Shane Vereen also got into the mix, rushing for 91 yards and a pair of TDs on 19 carries. Vereen has now gone for 721 yard and 10 TDs on the ground this season.

The Beavs defense cannot afford to slip up early as it did giving up a quick 21 points to Washington last time out, or Cal will make them pay. Overall, the Beavers were beat for 189 yards on the ground and 286 more through the air, but on the upside did force three turnovers. However, they will need to improve their play on that side of the ball moving, which is giving up 459.2 total YPG.

California holds a 33-29 edge over OSU all-time, but the Beavs have won nine of the past 11 meetings, including a 31-14 victory last season in Berkeley.

Reser is a tough place to play, and even tougher when facing a well-rested, high octane Beavers’ offense that boast the likes of Rodgers. Considering the G-Bears’ struggles on the road, I expect Oregon to win this one, covering the spread.
