Handicapping AP Top 25: NCAA Football Top 10 – Week 8 Betting Preview

Week 8 AP Top 25

The Week 8 AP Top 25 college football rankings were released on Sunday. Stanford’s loss on Saturday knocked them right out of the top 10, while Georgia suffered the same fate. Florida State moved into the top 5, while UCLA and Miami climbed into the top 10.

This week’s schedule features a meeting of top 5 teams, with No. 5 Florida State making the trip to Death Valley to take on No. 3 Clemson in a marquee matchup between ACC foes.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 teams and their chances of moving up, or down on Sunday when the next set of rankings is released. Lines courtesy [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′].

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (6-0, previous: 1)

Alabama brushed off Kentucky in what should have been a tougher road game than it was. The team put up a whopping 668 yards of offense in the contest, with AJ. McCarron throwing for 359 yards. Any concerns surrounding the team’s offense are clearly in the past. Now the Tide get a reeling Arkansas team as 28-point favorites.

2. Oregon Ducks (6-0, previous: 2)

It may not have been their flashiest win, but it was certainly their best win of the year. Oregon took it to Washington at Husky Stadium on Saturday, with their offense coming alive in the second half to put Washington in their rear view mirror for good. Oregon gets a Washington State team coming off a 28-point loss this weekend.

The Ducks are 38-point favorites in the game.

3. Clemson Tigers (6-0, previous: 3)

Clemson was certainly guilty of looking ahead to this weekend’s game when they took on Boston College on Saturday, but the team was bailed out by its defense in a 24-14 win. Now they get Florida State as three-point underdogs, despite getting the game at home in Death Valley. The Tigers are in serious danger of giving up the No. 3 ranking in the country.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0, previous: 4)

A much deserved week off for the Buckeyes who are 18-0 under Urban Meyer. This weekend they’ll host Iowa as 16.5-point favorites. Iowa has been a pleasant surprise, compiling a 4-2 record on the year, with a road win already under their belts in Big Ten play coming over Minnesota.

5. Florida State Seminoles (5-0, previous: 6)

Florida State moved ahead a spot in the rankings despite being idle last week. The last time we saw the Seminoles, they crushed Maryland, 63-0. We’re going to learn a lot about what this team really is when they take on Clemson in Death Valley in the week’s marquee matchup. The team is a three-point favorite in the game, and could conceivably replace Clemson as the No. 3 team in the nation with a win.

6. LSU Tigers (6-1, previous: 10)

After having little trouble with Florida on Saturday, LSU catapulted four spots up the rankings to No. 6. This weekend they’ll travel to Ole Miss as 7.5-point favorites. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

7. Texas A&M Aggies (5-1, previous: 9)

A scary incident involving Johnny Manziel and needing a late field goal to scratch past Ole Miss weren’t enough to keep the Aggies from jumping ahead two spots in the rankings. Next up is an Auburn team that has been better than expected and just climbed into the rankings themselves, but the Aggies are 13.5-point favorites in the game.

8. Louisville Cardinals (5-0, previous: 8)

The Cardinals had a chance to make some noise with all eyes on them on Thursday night, but could only beat Rutger by two scores. Despite being 11.5-point favorites this weekend, they are officially on upset alert against an underrated Central Florida team.

9. UCLA Bruins (5-0, previous: 11)

The UCLA Bruins haven’t had any trouble scoring this season, but they could have some this weekend when they play at Stanford against the 13th-ranked Cardinal. The Bruins are 4.5-point underdogs in the game after losing to Stanford twice in as many weeks last season.

10. Miami Hurricanes (5-0, previous: 13)

The Miami Hurricanes were idle, but still moved ahead three spots to No. 10. The team will play at North Carolina on Thursday night as 7.5-point favorites.
