Handicapping AP Top 25: NCAA Football Top 10 – Betting Preview

Week 6 AP Top 25

The Week 6 AP Top 25 college football rankings were released on Sunday. No movement in the top 5, but Georgia moved up to No. 6 after their win over LSU, and the Tigers were able to remain inside the top 10 in the No. 10 spot despite losing on Saturday.

This week’s schedule features some more marquee matchups, including three games between ranked teams. Also, plenty of major programs will hit the road, which could mean a major upset.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 teams and their chances of moving up, or down on Sunday when the next set of rankings is released. Lines courtesy of BetOnline.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0, previous: 1)

Many flirted with the idea of the Ole Miss offense giving Alabama some trouble, but that certainly wasn’t the case, as the Tide kept the Rebels off the board. Next on tap for Alabama is Georgia State. No one expects the Panthers to put up much resistance, as the Tide are 57-point favorites.

2. Oregon Ducks (4-0, previous: 2)

Oregon hasn’t won a game by fewer than 39 points this season, scoring an average of 59.8 points per contest.

Last week’s win over Cal upped the team’s ATS record to a perfect 4-0. This weekend the Ducks draw Colorado as 38-point favorites.

3. Clemson Tigers (4-0, previous: 3)

Clemson shook off their scare against North Carolina State last Thursday, dusting Wake Forest on Saturday, 56-7. Their last two home wins have come by a margin of 88 points. This weekend they’ll take to the round to face off with Syracuse as 13.5-point favorites.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0, previous: 4)

Ohio State improved to 17-0 under Urban Meyer with a win over Wisconsin on Saturday. Braxton Miller put any talk of a quarterback controversy in Columbus to bed by throwing for four touchdowns against the Badgers. The Buckeyes will be tested this weekend when they travel to Evanston to take on the 16th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats as 6-point favorites.

5. Stanford Cardinal (2-0, previous: 5)

Stanford walked all over Washington State on Saturday, taking a 38-3 lead into the fourth quarter en route to a 55-17 win. This weekend they get a Washington team that’s coming off a big win over Arizona. The Cardinal are installed as favorites of just 7 points on their home field.

6. Georgia Bulldogs (3-1, previous: 9)

The Bulldogs sure set up a stern test for themselves, setting up meetings with top 10 teams in three of the first four weeks of the season. Winning two of those games is something they should be happy with, and they’re surely flying high after Saturday’s win over LSU. This weekend, Georgia will host Tennessee as 10-point favorites. 7. Louisville Cardinals (4-0, previous: 7)

Louisville is coming off a bye week, but it’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference, given the ease at which they’ve handled their soft schedule. Through four games, the Cardinals have outscored their opponents by a whopping score of 192-27. Another easy game on tap for them as they will play at Temple as 31-point favorites on Saturday.

8. Florida State Seminoles (4-0, previous: 8)

Florida State spotted Boston College a 17-3 lead before pushing into high gear, coming away with a 48-34 win. The team’s defense has been solid, as expected, but the offense has been other-worldly. The Seminoles have outscored opponents by an average of 51.3-15.0 this season. They’ll face their toughest test yet this weekend, hosting Maryland as 17-point favorites.

9. Texas A&M Aggies (4-1, previous: 10)

An impressive 45-33 win at Arkansas helped to move the Aggies up a spot in the rankings. They’ll take a week off before another test next weekend when they travel to Ole Miss.

10. LSU Tigers (3-1, previous: 6)

Saturday’s loss to Georgia was surely tough to swallow, but the Tigers can answer back in the coming weeks, starting with a tough road game at Mississippi State this weekend as 9.5-point favorites.
