Hawaii’s season has gone pretty much to plan; Louisiana Tech is crashing and burning. The WAC rivals will hook up in Honolulu on Saturday, where the Warriors are eight-point favorites.

Hawaii (2-2, 2-1 against the spread) is coming off a 66-7 romp over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. So far, the season has gone pretty much exactly as expected; wins over Charleston Southern and Army, losses to USC and Colorado. Bryant Moniz did a fantastic job with the offense last week, throwing for 395 yards and a school-record six first-half touchdown passes. That said, Hawaii wasn’t perfect. It committed four turnovers on the day, including a pair of interceptions by Moniz.

Defensively, the Warriors looked very sharp. They’ve been killed by the run this season—they’re allowing over 200 yards per game on the ground—but didn’t let the Buccaneers have a single inch. Charleston Southern rushed for just 52 yards on 41 carries. Hawaii also racked up four sacks and four takeaways in a pretty well-rounded defensive effort.

Louisiana Tech (1-3, 1-2 ATS), meanwhile, is coming off a tough 13-12 home loss to Southern Miss. A three-game losing streak has dashed morale at Tech, especially after the offense’s grizzly performance against the Golden Eagles. This unit is supposed to be a high-powered one, but it looked anything but last weekend when it gave up three turnovers in the fourth quarter alone.

The coaches are doing a disastrous job at quarterback. Three different players have already lined up under center for the Bulldogs—and that doesn’t even include senior Steven Eminger, who was named the starter after the first week of August camp but has yet to play a down (he’s been taking some snaps at wide receiver). Junior college transfer Tarik Hakmi got some relief work against Southern Miss and threw for 262 yards, one touchdown and two picks while adding 26 yards on 12 carries on the ground. He’ll probably get the (first) call under center this week.

It’s hard to like much of anything Louisiana Tech is doing right now. The Warriors have at least won the games they’re supposed to, plus gave a talented USC team a run for its money. Hawaii may not have much of a defense, but it won’t need one against the Bulldogs. The Warriors have more than enough firepower to turn this one into a blowout.
