Finally, No. 1 Oregon has earned recognition as the best team in the nation by the BCS after running over then-No. 24 USC 53-32 last Saturday.

With just one top 25 team on their remaining on their four game schedule, it would appear the Ducks are well on the way to a perfect regular season and a spot in the BCS title game.

Oregon now faces a team of little resistance as they take on the Washington Huskies that not only has been struggling defensively, but also are playing without its star quarterback.

Jake Locker considered a Heisman contender before the start of the season will patrol the sideline with a broken rib as he watches freshman Keith Price, who will make his first career start, lead the team against the vaunted Ducks.  Price has seen limited action this season, throwing nine passes in five games.

The Huskies will need to show more fight than they did in last Saturday’s 41-0 loss to then-No. 13 Stanford if they want even the slightest chance at walking away with a win in this one.

Especially, offensively, as they finished with just 107 yards of offense against the Cardinal.

On the other side of the ball, the Huskies will have to tighten up as well after allowing 34.1 points per game to rank 106th in the FBS.

Not good as they will now face an Oregon offense that leads the nation with 54.9 points and 572.9 yards per game, including rolling up 599 yards against USC.

They are led by a balanced attack featuring quarterback Darron Thomas, who is tied for first in the Pac-10 with 21 touchdown passes, and running back LaMichael James who is second in the nation with 1,210 rushing yards.

Thomas threw for 288 yards and matched a season high with four TD passes against the Trojans, while James ran for 239 and three touchdowns last weekend, his third 200-yard game of the season.

The Ducks has had little trouble scoring against the Huskies, averaging 42.0 points in winning six straight in the series since a 42-10 loss in 2003. In the Ducks’ 43-19 win at Washington last season, James rushed for 154 yards and two TDs on 15 carries.

If the Huskies can mount a sustained ground game, they could take pressure off Price and limit the amount of time Oregon’s offense has on the field. But leading rusher Chris Polk has been held to just 82 yards on 27 carries over the last two weeks, so that will have to change.

I just don’t see Washington being the one to snap the “Eugene Machine’s” undefeated streak.
