Miami Hurricanes vs Boston College Eagles NCAA Preview & Free Pick

Week 1 2012 Miami vs BC Predictions

It is still amazing to see how far the Hurricanes program has fallen.  There is talent on this roster (there always has been) but this program is so snakebitten they don’t know what to do with themselves.

Miami

I really miss the old days when they used to step on your neck on the way to the goal line.  This year might show some improvement but this team is mid tier in the ACC this season – at best.

A lot of familiar names have moved on from the Hurricanes and they don’t get an easy start to the schedule with back to back road games.  While there is talent in terms of recruiting rankings there are major question marks on offense where the leading passer, rusher and receiver are all gone.  QB Stephen Morris has experience but the fact that he never fully grabbed the job from departed Jacory Harris says a lot about his play.

The Hurricanes are getting more respect than they probably deserve on the road in this one.   The better athletes are definitely on the Miami side of the ball and that might be enough to collect a victory.  If so the chances of covering the small number are great.  This one has moved a lot more than I would have thought during the week. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Boston College

Boston College used to be one of the most consistently good programs in the nation – not quite SEC championship calibre but they used to crank out 9 win seasons and bowl victories. This squad has really fallen on hard times and 2012 might be a rock bottom kind of year, especially with leading career Montel Harris now at Temple.  They are also missing all everything defensive star Luke Kuechly, just when we were starting to get a hang on how to pronounce his name.

The problem for BC of late has been a complete lack of offense.  This program has never chucked it all over the field (even when they had pro level QBs like Matt Ryan) and now they have a meek attack without any proven playmakers.  They want to run the ball, which might not be the best strategy against UM, and play good defense, but it is hard to win too many games scoring 14 or 17 points.

There is a lot of pundit interest on the BC side of this one especially as the line got bigger and bigger favouring Miami.  I feel like both of these teams just have too many unknowns to make a huge play on either side.  Odds are both teams are going to be pretty mediocre but if one of them is actually good they should have no trouble covering the line.  Do you have an extra insight?
