No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners vs. Kansas Jayhawks Preview

Yeah, no wonder the betting spread is so big for the Sooners even though they are away. NCAAF lines have Oklahoma as 35.5-point away favorites with a total of 72.5.

In their last games Oklahoma blew out Texas 55-17 and Kansas was embarrassed losing to Oklahoma State 70-28.

You would think that the Sooners may have a letdown after coming off the win last week over Texas in one of the biggest rivalry games in college football, but Oklahoma is 12-0 after the Red River Rivalry game under head coach Bob Stoops.

To say the Kansas defense has their hands full in this game is a major understatement, as they gave up 600 yards of total offense (494 passing yards 106 rushing yards) in the blowout loss to Oklahoma State while Oklahoma had 453 total yards in their win over Texas.

Kansas has the nation’s 119th ranked defense and for them to have any chance in this game they will have to contain OU QB Landry Jones, who has now lack of receivers and torched the Texas secondary last week.

To make matters worse for the Jayhawks the Sooners will get RB Brennan Clay back after spraining his shoulder a few weeks ago. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Kansas, actually, did not have a bad game on offense in the loss to OSU with 325 passing yards and 153 rushing yards, but they committed 4 turnovers and if that happens again they will be at the receiving end of another HUGE loss.

KU QB Jordan Webb leads the Jayhawks and their 50th ranked pass offense and he has to play well and avoid mistakes in this game after throwing 2 picks in last week’s loss. Even though OU only ranks 60th in the nation they are legit and forced the Texas QB’s into 2 fumbles and they picked them off twice.

Kansas has a good rushing offense ranks 18th in the nation and for them to have any chance in this game the duo of James Sims and Tony Pierson will have to play great games. If these guys can run the ball facing a OU run defense that totally shut down the Longhorns last week they can help their D by keeping them off the field.

Betting Trends

This season Kansas is 2-3 ATS and has an O/U record of 5-0 and Oklahoma is 4-1 ATS and has an O/U record of 3-2.
Oklahoma is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games facing a team with a losing record, and has an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 road games.
Kansas is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as an underdog of 10.5 or greater, and has an Over record of 16-5 in their last 21 home games.

Jason’s Pick: Man, hard to pick a team to win by 35.5 points and I have to do it taking the Sooners, who are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against Kansas, to cover in this game. Take the Over as well, as OU will light up the scoreboard.
