For Miami, their last time out was a memorable one. The team upset in state rival Florida, propelling themselves into the AP Top 25 rankings.

Quarterback Stephen Morris threw a pair of touchdowns in that game, both of which came in the first quarter. The team’s third scored came from running back Duke Johnson who added a two-yard plunge. The offense was stagnant after the first quarter.

The team gained 143 yards of offense in the first quarter of the game, then racked up just 69 yards the rest of the way, averaging 7.9 yards per play in the opening quarter, then just 2.0 yards per play the rest of the way.

The Miami defense wasn’t great against Florida, but they were opportunistic. The team forced four turnovers while Florida was in the red zone, keeping them from getting any points. They did however, allow Jeff Driskel to put up one of his better passing days at Florida, completing 22 of 33 passes for a career-high 291 yards, plus a touchdown. While the team held the scoring edge in the end, it was Florida who dominated in terms of yards gained. Florida outgained Miami 413-212, and picked up 22 first downs in the contest. Savannah State’s last game went a lot better than the one before that, when they were blown out by Troy, 66-3. Last week the team actually gutted out a win, getting past Fort Valley State, 27-20. Antonio Bostick was the team’s top performer, throwing for a pair of scores, and running for a third. The team showed some fight in the game, clawing back from a 13-0 deficit. Bostick’s late score was the one that sealed the deal, as he scored from a yard out with less than five minutes remaining in the contest. Despite winning the game, the Tigers were outgained 425-243.

Savannah State has gotten crushed when taking the step up in competition. Savannah State failed to cover as a 51.5-point underdog earlier this season, and that was against Troy.

Miami should roll in this one, but are they the type of team that can build up a 60-point margin? The school hasn’t scored 55 or more points in a game since putting up 56 in a game against Virginia Tech on December 7, 2002, a span of 128 games.

In 25 career games for Stephen Morris, the team’s largest margin of victory is 35 points.
