Miami sits undefeated with a chance to really improve their chances for a special season with a win on Thursday night in Chapel Hill.

On paper it may look like a breeze but North Carolina might be the best one win team in the country. They have talent and beat the Canes in Miami last year. They are capable of doing it again too.

Miami

The Hurricanes are certainly not a juggernaut but they have passed every test so far this season. They have great balance on offense, featuring the passing talents of QB Stephen Morris as well as the elusive running of RB Duke Johnson, who is averaging almost 7 yards per carry.

The best part is they are starting to look like the Hurricanes of old on defense as they are first in the nation against the pass while yielding only 16ppg, good for 9th.

It seems that the talent they have been recruiting while the program was down is finally beginning to shine through making this a dangerous team in any game against any opponent.

The key is whether they have mastered consistency and this game, on the road in prime time, will show us if they are ready to take on teams like Clemson and Florida State. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The ACC is looking like it has a pretty bright future with those teams leading the way.

North Carolina

The Tar Heels got off to a rough start and really haven’t recovered since losing to South Carolina in the opener. It was a chance to make a statement and they failed and it looks like they are playing like a team without confidence.

This is surprising because in Bryn Renner they have a QB with loads of experience.

They are 0-2 in the ACC but both games have been on the road against good teams in Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.

They could definitely win this one but will need to get their running game going because the Canes make it difficult to throw.

They also need to be better on defense as they gave up 55 points at home to East Carolina – a low point for them this season. Renner is the key because they don’t have Gio Bernard to carve up Miami on the ground like they did last year. He is on pace to have his senior season becoming his worst season as a starter.

No explanation for it either.

Spread Pick: Miami -8.5
