Meanwhile, TCU lost QB Casey Pachall to injury in the second quarter against Southeastern Louisiana Saturday, and he is expected to miss eight weeks.

Nevertheless, there is good news for the Horned Frogs, as the loss of Pachall may be of little significance, as backup Trevone Boykin picked up right where he left off last season, leading TCU to a 38-17 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.

Boykin went 9-for-13 for 133 yards and two touchdowns and added 35 yards on the ground this past weekend after entering the game in the second quarter. Now he will prepare for his fourth start against the Red Raiders, a team that he threw for a career-high 332 yards and four touchdowns during his last start but still managed to come up on the wrong end of a 56-53  triple overtime loss last season.

For the time being, the Red Raiders have opened 2-0 for the ninth straight year, averaging 51 points in their first two games of the 2013 season, and lead the Big 12 in total offense, passing yards and passing touchdowns.

Mayfield racked up eye-popping numbers in his debut against Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, connecting on 21-of-30 for 367 yards and three touchdowns on the way to a 63-13 rout. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Despite the display of offense, the Red Raiders didn’t run the ball much, as freshman running back Quinton White carried just five times for 71 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Texas Tech held the Lumberjacks to just 69 yards rushing and 287 yards passing, while forcing two turnovers.

Not good news for a TCU running game that was held in check against the Lions. Running backs B.J. Catalon and Waymon James combined for just 98 yards on 19 carries.

On the defensive side, the Horned Frogs allowed 207 yards rushing, 132 yards and a touchdown, but did spring to life in the second half, however, producing three turnovers and coming up with several key stops.

Matt’s Prediction

The Horned Frogs are favored here even thought they haven’t exactly fielded a very good defense, allowing 448 total yards to LSU and 339 to Southeastern Louisiana.

Texas Tech’s offense however, is on fire, and the defense pulled its share of the load.

I expect, the Red Raiders to avoid the shootout with a stingier defense, winning this one at home.
