As predicted the Wolverines have arguably one of the best offenses in the Big Ten again, and they sure proved they could put points up on the board in week one. But can they repeat that performance against a team like Notre Dame?

They can if Devin Gardner can find his footing.

The young quarterback got the start on Saturday against the Chippewas, but he struggled against Central Michigan, throwing two picks and for just 162 yards.

The ground game for the Wolverines, however, was brilliant on Saturday, as the backfield light it up combining for a total of 242 yards on the ground against Central Michigan.

Meanwhile, the Irish were the poster child of the college football world last year during the regular season, but ran into some serious trouble during their bout with Alabama for a national title. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Notre Dame is a team built on its defense and once again, they proved it, holding Temple to just six points and 362 total yards on Saturday.

However, the Irish offense did well too, and put up an impressive 543 yards against the Owls, 355 of which came by way of an impressive aerial assault led by quarterback Tommy Rees, who finished the day completing 16-of-23 for 346 yards and three scores.

Matt’s Prediction

I am not surprised that oddsmakers have listed the Wolverines as the early favorites here. And I expect that number to grow a little before kick off on Saturday,

Sure, the Irish are a very good team and Rees was outstanding for the Irish in Week 1.

But the Wolverines are not the Owls, and the Big House is not Notre Dame Stadium.

Besides, Michigan will be bent on avenging last year’s loss in Notre Dame.

I expect the Irish will get theirs and hang around, but the balanced attack of the Wolverines, and the 12th man should give the Michigan enough push to cover and win at home in this one.
