Florida Gators vs. Miami Hurricanes Gambling Prediction & Week 2 Preview

Florida vs Miami (FL) NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

I have to start by saying that it is fantastic that Florida, Miami and Florida State essentially have a round robin to determine the best team in the state this year. The Gators and Hurricanes are both coming into this one off victories that didn’t force them to sweat too much.

The Gators are once again getting roasted for not having that much on offense (no passing game) while the Canes looked pretty good, even though they missed covering the number against a weak opponent last week. There is always juice when teams from Florida get together and this should be one of the better games on Saturday as both teams are ranked and can use it as a springboard towards BCS consideration.

It is a rare treat in that 12:00 time slot.

Florida

It was the same story as last year for the Florida Gators in their opening win against Toledo – strong defense, questionable quarterbacking.

The offense racked up more than 200 yards on the ground but against a defense like Toledo they should be able to put up more than 153 yards passing shouldn’t they? Especially with the offseason prepare (unless they were holding back).

Quarterback Jeff Driskel is going to need to be able to challenge teams down the field because in this one and in SEC play it won’t be so easy to dominate the line of scrimmage like they did against the Rockets. Until he proves he can, I am going to be very leary of backing the Gators who didn’t cover in the opener – especially as favourites – no matter how strong the defense may be. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Miami

Miami also failed to cover in their opener but their game against FAU was never in doubt and it certainly launched the Heisman campaign of Duke Johnson, an electric running back. If Johnson can have another day like that against the Gators he can leap to the top of the list because it will be a much more impressive performance this week.

I like the odds of that happening because QB Stephen Morris can keep the secondary occupied just enough. He hasn’t always come up big in their highest profile games but as a senior at home I am willing to take a chance on him leading the Hurricanes to an upset effort.

My only concern is the Miami defense, but they do have the athletes to bottle up the running game and press on the outside, daring Driskel to beat them.

I don’t think he will be able to do it and until Miami proves otherwise I am sticking with my preseason bullish prediction, including a win this week.

Spread Pick: Miami +3
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Miami 27 – Florida 17
