TERRELLE PRYOR, Ohio State

After a fantastic passing performance last week versus Indiana (24-for-30 for 334 yards, three TDs ) and the collective hiccup of a few other power programs, Pryor is looking more legitimate by the second. One plus to this scenario: because Pryor is situated as the quarterback for perhaps the nation’s best current team in the Buckeyes, it is better for the accolades to be slated for someone who is actually gifted at football, rather than merely a ‘good’ QB on the nation’s elite team (Re: past winners Jason White, Troy Smith).

KELLEN MOORE, Boise State

The Smurfs continue to steamroll, which means Moore continues to bring buzz to the table. Moore was his ruthlessly efficient self last week, though the competition wasn’t very stiff in Toledo. Moore sits pretty with 1,336 yards, 14 TDs to one interception on the season and an ungodly 183.27 quarterback rating. While Joe Southwick is Boise’s back-up pivot, the Broncos’ starting Southpaw is the one emitting Heisman radiation in the land of the potato. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

LaMICHAEL JAMES, Oregon

This devastating Duck is still the middle of the Heisman gossip; James continues to blaze past the competition while thrusting six points on opposing scoreboards. The speedster had a more workmanlike outing last week at Washington State, carrying the ball 25 times for 136 yards and a couple majors. James has posted 848 rushing yards and 10 total TDs thus far and if Oregon’s offense continues to be remotely itself, plan for those numbers to balloon.

CAM NEWTON, Auburn

Where Newton is somewhat deficient in the pimpin’ passing stats of some of the other QB candidates, he makes up for with dexterous dashin’. The Tigers’ pivot has nearly 2,000 total yards from scrimmage so far and he shows no signs of slowing down, single-handedly fueling Auburn’s attack. The outburst includes just shy of 700 yards rushing. Add 21 total TDs to the mix, and Newton’s stats are as good or better than anyone’s. Yet, Auburn must navigate a very tough conference schedule and maybe things will come out in the wash in a few weeks time.

Mentionables

DENARD ROBINSON, Michigan

Robinson came back to Earth somewhat in a loss to hated Michigan State last week, where he at times looked like the green quarterback [we often forget] he is.

TAYLOR MARTINEZ, Nebraska

This freshman has been scrambling with authority en route to the Cornhuskers destroying competitors so far. He might choke in a big game, though, such as Texas this coming week.
