No one has been shy about suggesting that the Tide may have some trouble with the Ole Miss passing game, but no one should be surprised if Nick Saban and the Tide use that as motivation.

Alabama’s 49-point explosion in College Station mask their offensive struggles this season, and even in that game their point total was boosted by a defensive touchdown.

The team has been able to find other ways to score, but now that they’re entering the SEC-heavy portion of their schedule, they’re going to need to find other ways to score. The team compiled only 66 rushing yards against Colorado State, but still managed to win 31-6.

Sandwiched around that Texas A&M game are a 206 yard output against Virginia Tech in their opener, and a 338 yard performance against Colorado State. The team ranks second last in the SEC in total offense and dead last in rushing offense.

A.J. McCarron completed 20 of 26 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown with an interception against Colorado State. The final score in that game would have been a lot less respectable if not for a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one of which came on fourth down, and the other came on special teams. Any offensive concerns have been covered up by how dominant their defense has been. Outside of the A&M game, Alabama has limited its other two opponents under 280 yards of offense, limiting Colorado State to 51 yards on the ground last week.

Ole Miss enters this game at 3-0 for the first time since 1989. The unit can thank their offense for their hot start, as the team has put up 38.0 points per game and rushed for 250.0 yards per game. Prior to their bye week, the Rebels beat Texas, 44-23. Running back Jeff Scott ran 19 times for 164 yards and a score in that game, while quarterback Bo Wallace completed 17 of 25 passes for 177 yards and a pair of scores.

The Ole Miss defense had plenty of success against Texas, particularly in the second half when they tightened up considerably, and limited Texas to just 100 total yards in the game’s final 30 minutes.

While expecting an issue may be a little much, don’t be surprised if Ole Miss gives Alabama a ride for their money. Alabama’s secondary issues are very real, and that should mean points for the Rebels, who are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against SEC opponents.

Don’t expect Ole Miss to be blinded by the bright lights in Alabama, as they are 4-0 ATS in their last four trips to Tuscaloosa.

The play: Ole Miss +14
