Colorado Buffaloes vs. No. 24 Missouri Tigers Preview

In a Big 12 match up this Saturday night the 24th ranked Missouri Tigers (4-0) host the Colorado Buffalos (3-1). College betting lines have Missouri as 12.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 52.

Missouri has beat Colorado 5 straight times and they will try to make it 6 in the Buffalos last game against them in the Big 12 conference with Colorado moving to the Pac 10 next season.

This is the first Big 12 game for both teams and each would like to get off to a good start, as each still has to face 8th ranked Oklahoma and 7th ranked Nebraska in conference play.

The Buffalos have already matched their win total of last year and in their last game they beat a solid Georgia team. However, the Tigers have dominated them in recent years, as Mizzou has out-scored them 177-40 in their last 4 games against them covering the spread every time.

Colorado has lost 12 road games in a row and in their only away game this season they were crushed 52-7 to California.

Last week Missouri had the week off, but in the previous week they beat Miami of Ohio 51-13 and last week Colorado beat Georgia 29-27.

Heading into this Big 12 match up Colorado is 3-1 ATS and Missouri is 2-2 ATS.

The Tigers racked up 469 yards on offense against Miami of Ohio and they forced 3 turnovers on defense.

Mizzou and their 24th ranked passing offense is led by QB Blaine Gabbert, who is a solid QB, but in the easy win 2 weeks back he only passed 21 times for 187 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. He has some solid targets and they will be facing the weakness of the Buffalos’ defense, which is defending the pass. UC ranks 83rd in the nation in pass defense and last week against Georgia they gave up 221 yards through the air.

Even though Missouri ranks 63rd in the nation in rushing yards per game they had 236 rushing yards against Miami. They have a few backs that can run the ball, but they will have a hard time picking up yards against a Colorado rushing defense that ranks 18th in the nation.

Because the run D is so solid for the Buffalos Gabbert may air it out more and Colorado has to pressure him and this season they have 9 sacks.

Colorado does not have a dynamic offense, as their passing offense ranks 91st in the nation and their rushing offense ranks 53rd.

QB Tyler Hansen leads the offense and last week against Georgia he was 13/20 for 158 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. He will be facing the strength of the Mizzou D, which is their pass defense ranking 29th in the nation. However, if Hansen can connect on some passes it will keep the Tigers’ D from stacking the line to stop the run.

Colorado may have to run the ball in this game and they may be successful going up against Mizzou and their 58th ranked rushing defense. Last week backup RB Rodney Stewart had a career day rushing for 149 yards and 2 TD averaging an impressive 7.8 yards per carry. Starter Brian Lockridge is questionable with an ankle injury, but if he can go he and Stewart will form a formidable combo in the backfield.

In last season’s game the Tigers had 8 sacks on Hansen and the Colorado offensive line has to protect him as well as opening up holes for the rushing attack. At least they will not have to face Mizzou’s leading pass rusher LB Aldon Smith, who is out for this game with an injury.

Colorado has the rushing offense, but Missouri will show they are an improved defensive team and their passing offense will too much for the Buffalos to handle.

Betting Trends:

Colorado is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Big 12 games, and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 Big 12 games.
Missouri is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games, 2-8 ATS in their last 10 Big 12 games, 3-11 in their last 11 home games, and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 Big 12 games.

Pick: Mizzou will continue their domination over Colorado and even though it will not be a blowout the Tigers will win this game and cover the 12.5-point spread.
