The Boston College Eagles will close out their 2010 regular season when they take on the Syracuse Orange this Saturday afternoon to renew an old Big East rivalry. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Boston College became bowl eligible with its 17-13 win over Virginia last Saturday, but the victory came at a steep price as the Eagles leading rusher Montel Harris injured his knee in the game. He is definitely out this week, but his status beyond that is currently unknown. Harris had rushed for 1,243 yards this season ranking him ninth in Division I-A.

The win over the Cavaliers moved B.C. to 6-5 straight-up on the season but the Eagles failed to cover in this game as a seven-point home favorite so they fell to 4-7 against the spread. They finished 4-4 SU in the ACC.

Life will have to go on without Harris so look for RB Andre Williams to step up and try to fill the void. Williams has rushed for 206 yards on 34 carries for an impressive average of 6.1 yards per carry. Freshman RB Sterlin Phifer may also see some increased playing time after running the ball just 17 times in the previous 11 games. NFL Betting

Syracuse will look to rebound from last week’s disappointing 23-6 loss to Connecticut that ended any Big East title hopes for the Orange. They failed to cover as a four-point home favorite and the total stayed well ‘under’ the 45 point line. None the less, Syracuse is enjoying one of its best seasons in years and is already bowl eligible with seven wins. The Orange are currently 7-4 both SU and ATS. They finished the regular season 4-3 SU in the Big East.

Defense has been the story for Syracuse this year, as it is ranked 13th in the nation in points allowed; giving up an average of just 18.3 points per game. The offense has not faired nearly as well as its 22.3 points per game average is ranked 94th overall. QB Ryan Nassib has completed 55.6 percent of his passes for 1,948 yards and 16 touchdowns and he has thrown seven interceptions on the year. WR Van Chew is the team’s leading receiver with 592 yards on 39 catches. RB Delone Carter has carried the load on the ground with 1,005 yards rushing on 198 carries. He also leads the team with seven touchdowns.

Trends:

Boston College is 2-2 SU in four road games this season and 3-1 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’  in eight of its last 10 games overall.
Syracuse is just 2-3 SU and ATS in its five games at home this year. The total has stayed ‘under’  in six of its last eight games overall.

Head-to-head, the Orange have won three out of the last four games SU and are also 3-1 ATS, but the two teams have not met since 2004 when the Eagles were still a part of the Big East.

This should be a low-scoring affair, especially with Harris out of the game for Boston College. Look for the Orange to exploit the fact that the Eagles do not have much of a passing game to grind out a win at home, but in a game that is just too close to call stick with B.C. and the points.

The Pick: Boston College +3
