No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners vs. Baylor Bears Preview

Oklahoma (8-2) can play in the Big 12 Championship if they beat Baylor (7-4) this Saturday and then Oklahoma State next week, but neither game will be easy since each is one the road and both games are against teams that will play in bowl games. College football lines have Oklahoma as 7.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 63.5.

In their last games Oklahoma crushed Texas Tech 44-7 while Baylor lost to Texas A&M 42-30.

Baylor already has qualified for a bowl and this season was their first since joining the Big 12 where they will finish with a winning record. However, they have lost 2 straight games and in those games they have given up a combined 97 points. Speaking of 97 that is exactly the ranking of the Baylor defense and for them to win this game their offense will likely have to score a ton of points.

This game is not a good match up for the Bears to say the least. In their last 2 games they have lost to teams with a great passing offense and a decent rushing offense, which exactly the type of team that Oklahoma is.

Oklahoma has lost 4 straight Big 12 road games. In their 2 road losses this season in the conference their defense has struggled giving up a combined total of 69 points.

Heading into this Big 12 game Oklahoma is 5-5 ATS and Baylor is 5-6 ATS. The Sooners have covered the spread in 6 of their last 7 games when playing at Baylor.

After suffering their 2nd loss of the season the Sooners came back strong last week in their rout of Texas A&M with 562 yards of offense. Landry Jones passed for 317 yards with 5 TD and 0 INT and his main target of Ryan Broyles caught 8 passes for 119 yards with 3 TD. Baylor’s pass defense only ranks 108th in the nation and it is likely these 2 will have huge games again.

Where the Bears have really struggled in their last couple of games is defending the run. In their last 2 games they have given up a combined 581 rushing yards and that is not good since the Sooners rushed for 246 yards last week. DeMarco Murray averaged an impressive 8.8 yards per carry last week against Texas Tech and if Baylor lets that happen this Saturday the Bears will get killed.

While Baylor’s defense has been terrible their offense has played well just not well enough to win. Robert Griffin III passed for 212 yards in the loss to Texas A&M, but he had 1 pick and did not throw a TD and he rushed for 92 yards with 1 TD. He will be facing a Sooners’ pass defense that only ranks 75th in the nation, but played great last week holding the great passing offense of Texas Tech to only 144 yards through the air.

Jay Findley leads the Baylor rushing offense and last week he rushed for 169 yards with 3 TD. He and Griffin will be facing an Oklahoma Sooners rushing defense that ranks 50th in the nation.

The Sooners lost DT Adrian Taylor last week to a season-ending injury and OU is already thin at that position.

Baylor has the offense and they are at home, but all of that will not matter, as they will not keep the Sooners from racking up the yards on offense. Jones will tear apart the Bears’ secondary and Oklahoma will light up the scoreboard, as they will easily win this game and cover the 7.5-point spread.

Betting Trends

Oklahoma has not covered the spread once in their last 5 road games, but Baylor is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a home underdog of 3.5-10 and has only covered the spread one time in their last 5 games as an underdog.

Pick: Oklahoma -7.5
