Indiana
The Indiana Hoosiers looked like they were going to get the big win they so desperately need last week, but they fell just short. Iowa held on to beat the Hoosiers 18-13 in a game that Indiana led almost the whole way. This team must regroup or they’ll be blown out in Madison on Saturday.
The Hoosiers offense wasn’t nearly as good as normal last weekend, but that likely should be attributed to Iowa’s strong defense. Indiana’s offense is quite one-dimensional, but they are still very good. Ben Chappell is completing 64% of his passes and he already has 2,667 yards through the air this season. DeMarlo Belcher, Terrance Turner, and Tandon Doss give him the best wide receiver trio in the Big Ten. Doss is a big play maker and he is a star on special teams as well. The Hoosiers are averaging 303 yards through the air, but only 97 on the ground each game.
The Indiana defense did a great job holding Iowa to field goals last week, but on the year as a whole they have been bad. Indiana is poor against both the run and the pass. Indiana has struggled to put pressure on the opposing quarterback this year. They also have allowed opponents to convert on 41.6% of their third down conversion attempts. Indiana’s defense must step up and stop the run this week. 
Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Badgers played a lackluster first half last week at Purdue, but the kicked it in gear late and won the game easily. The Badgers are all the way up to #5 in the nation right now, and they could well be heading to the Rose Bowl if they don’t slip up the rest of the year.
The Wisconsin offense is balanced and efficient, which makes them very difficult to stop. The offensive line may be the best in the country. John Clay is dinged up and might miss this game, but James White and Montee Ball are great running backs as well. Wisconsin is averaging 216 yards per game on the ground, and they have dominated some very good defenses already this year. Scott Tolzien is a great quarterback for the Badgers offense. He understands his role and he takes what the defense gives him. Tolzien is completing 71.5% of his passes so far this year.
The Badgers defense suffered a major loss when Chris Borland went down earlier this year, but they have held it together quite well. Wisconsin is allowing just 19.4 points per game this season. One area where they need to improve is stopping opponents on third down. Opponents are converting their third down attempts at a 40% clip so far this year. The defense is definitely not as strong as the offense, but they are fairly solid.
The Pick:
The Indiana Hoosiers defense played fairly well last weekend, but I think they’ll get beat up on this week. Wisconsin will be able to do whatever they want in this one. I think Wisconsin -21.5 is the way to go in this game.
