They’re 7-0 on the year, and they’ll have home-field advantage in this one, which will be featured on ESPNU.

Nevada

Nevada may be coming off of three straight losses, but they can find comfort in the fact that two of those games were close down to the wire. Against San Diego State, they lost 51-44 in overtime, and against UNLV (their most recent opponent), they lost 27-22.

The biggest problem on the year for Nevada has been defense. The Wolfpack are allowing 36.3 points per outing, which is only good enough for 111th in the country.

Unfortunately for them, they’re going up against a Fresno State squad that is a top-10 team when it comes to points per game scored.

The defensive approach for the Wolfpack has to be this: Defend the pass. Fresno State is a dominant team through the air, whereas its rushing attack doesn’t deserve the same kind of respect. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

If Nevada can force the Bulldogs to run the ball, that’s where they’ll begin to find a semblance of success.

Fresno State

Fresno State can sense a BCS bowl game right around the corner, and they’re not going to let the Nevada Wolfpack get in the way on Saturday night.

The biggest reason Fresno State is finding success is quarterback Derek Carr. He’s been the catalyst of the offense, and as a result, the team is throwing for 371.9 yards per game—the seventh-best mark in the nation. His No. 1 target in the receiving game is Davante Adams, who has collected 72 passes for 804 yards and 13 touchdowns on the year.

Fresno State knows that it can score on Nevada, making the key to game defense—so long as the offense is its usual sharp self. It must stop quarterback Cody Fajardo from getting into his comfort zone, as he has just one touchdown on the year. If Fresno State commits turnovers, this game will be closer than anticipated.

If Nevada commits turnovers, it’s going to be a blowout.

Don’t underestimate home-field advantage in this one, either. The Bulldogs know that a BCS bowl game is within their reach, but the fans know it just as well.

Expect Fresno State to come out firing, and expect the crowd to be behind them the entire way.

Prediction: Fresno State 48 – Nevada 27
