Coach: Bo Pelini
2008 Record: 9-4

A program that was once as storied and esteemed as you could find has hit some turbulence in recent seasons.

Nebraska Gambling Odds from Betus.com to win BCS: +4500

Changing the offensive scheme from the option to the West Coast offense was drastic and the Bill Callahan experiment (former Oakland Raiders head coach) failed miserably. However, new coach Pelini is turning the program around to the point that it could quite possibly represent the North in the Big 12 title game. Nebraska has a solid, if unspectacular, offense. Tailback Roy Helu averaged a healthy 6.4 a clip last season and he forms a strong duo with junior Quentin Castille. The receivers are big and rangy and the Huskers have a great weight program for the O-lineman.

The defense will be effective with some strong players and oodles of experience in the secondary.

Team Strengths
Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is one of the best in the business. Mike ‘backer Will Compton is a specimen and strong safety Larry Asante is just money.

Pelini was the defensive guru at LSU before landing in Lincoln, so he’ll continue to be very influential on the unit.

Team Weaknesses
QB Zac Lee is untested, to the point that Nebraska’s entire pivot populace has attempted a paltry two career passes. We will see if outside linebackers Sean Fisher and Blake Lawrence can live up to a high billing.

Big Red is not in dominant form yet, they are far from perfect, but they are probably the best in a fairly diluted Big 12 North division. The defense is loaded with highly-touted prospects and is led by Suh, who should be a high pick in next year’s NFL draft.

Helu and Castille should move the chains and Nebraska ought to move its way to the Big 12 championship game.

2009 Nebraska Cornhuskers Record Prediction: 10-3
