The Irish shot down Air Force’s hopes of a bowl bid in Week 9, dismantling the Falcons 45-10, to notch there third win in a row.

Notre Dame dominated both sides of the ball, as quarterback Tommy Rees tossed a career-best five touchdown passes to five different Fighting Irish players, marking the first time that has happened in school history.

Rees finished the game with 284 yards,  while TJ Jones hauled in seven receptions for 104 yards and caught a touchdown pass for the fifth straight game for Notre Dame.

The performance was a far cry from some of Notre Dame’s somewhat shaky offensive performances earlier this season, during which they have barley squeezes out a win. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

It may be a sign that the Irish are peaking at just the right time as they prepare to face a Navy team that is in a good position to grab a postseason berth if it can avoid a few potential pit falls.

The Midshipmen snapped a two-game losing skid with a 24-21 win over Pittsburgh their last time out, on a Nick Sloan 30-yard field goal as time expired.

The option did just enough, as Keenan Reynolds passed for one touchdown and ran in another, finishing 8-of-18 for 105 yards and a team-high 93 rushing yards.

As a team the Midshipmen rolled up around 330 yards, including 220 yards on the ground.

With that win, Navy now needs just  two more victories to become bowl eligible, but they will need their option to produce once again against an Irish defense that has been pretty stingy at times this season.

Matt’s Free Prediction

Notre Dame defeated Navy a season ago, and will probably win again, barring some major Irish breakdown.

Nevertheless, the Midshipmen have proven they can “be all they can be” against the better teams, so I’m inclined to take advantage of the points spread here.

Nah, just kidding , go with Notre Dame as the “sink” Navy in this one at home.

Notre 45, Navy 17
