Miami (Ohio) Redhawks 2015 NCAA Football Odds & Predictions

2015-2016 Football Previews (MAC) – Redhawks

A few short years ago, Miami (Ohio) was one of the MAC powers, but that seems so long ago. Miami went 0-12 in 2013 and 2-10 last year. They return only four starters on offense and eight starters on defense, though that could be considered a good thing since the team has been so bad in recent years. Can Chuck Martin get this team going in the right direction?

MAC 2015-2016 College Football Preview- Miami (OH) Redhawks

Head Coach: Chuck Martin
2014 Record: 2-10
Odds to win MAC (from BetOnline): +15,000
Season Win Total (from 5Dimes): 4

Miami loses their top passer, rusher, and receiver from last year. Even with those guys they only averaged 22.3 points per game.

They do return 8 guys on defense, but they’ll have to find a way to score some points in a conference where a lot of teams can pile up the points in a hurry.

Team Strengths

The Redhawks have some decent players at the receiver spot. Rokeem Williams showed flashes of brilliance in his sophomore season, and I believe he has what it takes to be the go to guy for Miami this season.

Jared Murphy and Sam Martin are two other guys that did a nice job as youngsters. With a more experienced group, the Redhawks are in much better shape at wide receiver now.

The Redhawks have plenty of talent at the linebacker spot. Kent Kern was the leading tackler here two years ago. Kern suffered an injury and missed a lot of time last year, but he still picked up 69 tackles. Joe Donlan is a senior leader at the “Will” spot for the Redhawks. All three guys starting here have a lot of experience.

Team Weaknesses

Where do I start? This team has a bunch of problems.

The quarterback position is a mess. Andrew Hendrix threw for 3,280 yards here last year, and he was a guy who was really highly touted. Gus Ragland, Tom Tupa, and Dre Kummer are expected to battle for the job this year. I think Miami is in the single worst position of any team in the MAC at the quarterback spot, and it isn’t even close.

The offensive line is a major problem. Austin Gearing is a former quarterback who has been moved to offensive line to try to help with numbers here! You don’t see that every day! Miami’s offensive line has allowed a whopping 93 sacks in the last two seasons. The Redhawks haven’t averaged more than 3.4 yards per carry in any single year in the last seven years.

The secondary wasn’t very good last year, and that was when they had a star in Quinten Rollins. Rollins was drafted in the second round by the Green Bay Packers, and the Redhawks are going to miss him badly! He had seven interceptions and became one of the best corners in the nation last year. There isn’t anyone here to replace him, and this secondary will now be one of the worst in the country.

Who is going to carry the football? The running back spot is another major weakness. Miami leaned on Hendrix to scramble last year, and now he is gone. I see no one on this roster that will be able to run for more than 600 yards or so.

Miami (Ohio) Redhawks 2015-2016 Prediction: 2-10

It’s going to be another very long year for the Redhawks. I don’t see any way they get past four wins, so I like the under 4 for the season win total here.

This offense is just dreadfully bad. The defense is slightly better, but it isn’t good at all. It’s going to be ugly.
