Maryland Terrapins 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-2016 Football Previews (Big Ten)- Terrapins

Randy Edsall just got a three-year extension, so he’ll be at Maryland for a while. The Terrapins have gone 7-6 in two straight seasons, but things will be much tougher this year since they return only 6 starters on offense and 4 starters on defense.

Big Ten 2015-2016 College Football Preview – Maryland Terrapins
Head Coach: Randy Edsall
2014 Record: 7-6
Odds to Win College Football Championship (from BetOnline): +20,000
Odds to win Big Ten (from BetOnline): +10,000
Season Win Total (from 5Dimes): 4.5

Can Maryland rebuild quickly and stay competitive in the Big Ten, or will they fall toward the bottom of the pack? The season win total suggests oddsmakers expect a big dropoff from the Terrapins.

It’s important to remember that the rest of the Big Ten seems to be getting a lot better right now, so it’s a dangerous time for a team in the middle that lost so much talent.

Team Strengths

The Maryland secondary looks to be the single biggest strength on the team. Sean Davis is a tremendous safety who is both a star player and a vocal leader for the defense. Davis racked up 115 tackles and eight pass breakups last year. William Likely is one of the best cover corners in the conference. Likely picked off six passes last year and broke up nine more. This is a very athletic and talented secondary that should exceed expectations this year.

The Maryland offensive line had a lot of talent going into last year, and their play was certainly disappointed in 2014. I think it will be much better in 2015. It’s their second year in their offensive line coach’s system, and that often leads to much better results.

Also, some of the youngsters that looked inexperienced last year are likely to be ready to go this time around.

Team Weaknesses

The quarterback position has been a major area of concern for Maryland for several years.

They have often endured a ton of injuries at this spot. Caleb Rowe takes over the starting spot this year, but he has never really proven himself to be a quality starter in the past. With even less talent around him this year, I don’t think he’ll do it this time, either.

The Maryland Terrapins had arguably the best wide receivers in the conference last year with Stefon Diggs and Deon Long, but both of them are gone now. Maryland has a lot of inexperience and there will be a huge drop off in production from this group.

The Maryland rushing attack was awful last year. Quarterback C.J. Brown was the team’s leading rusher, and he isn’t around this year. Brandon Ross and Wes Brown return in the backfield, but they haven’t proven ready to carry the load.

Maryland’s entire front seven on defense is a question mark. No starter in this year’ s front seven had more than 37 tackles last year. Look for Maryland to be dominated by big offensive fronts this year.

Maryland Terrapins 2015-2016 Prediction: 4-8

Maryland is in for a long season.

A weak non-conference schedule gives them a bit of a chance to start 3-0, but I don’t see this team winning more than a game or possibly two in the Big Ten. With as many glaring weaknesses as Maryland has, you can’t win many games in a strong conference.
