NCAA Football Previews – Tigers vs Yellow Jackets

The Clemson Tigers will look to remain perfect on the year when they tangle with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Bobby Dodd Stadium in an ACC inter-divisional clash this upcoming Saturday night.

Venue: Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta, GA.

Tigers at Yellow Jackets lines by BetOnline.com
Point spread: Tigers -3.5
Over/Under: 63.5

The kick-off in this one is slated for 8 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

Clemson’s eighth-straight win of the season, a 59-38 rout of North Carolina as a 9.5-point home favorite last Saturday, help land it in the latest BCS rankings at No. 5. While the victory raised the Tigers to a perfect 8-0 straight-up they have also been a money maker at 7-1 against the spread. They are 5-0 SU in the Atlantic Division with a one-game lead over upstart Wake Forest and the total has gone ‘over’ in six of their first eight games overall.

Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins have been responsible for a bulk of the production on offense for Clemson. Boyd has completed 172-of-278 attempts for 2,379 yards and has 24 touchdown throws. Watkins has been on the receiving end of 54 of those completions for 819 yards and nine touchdowns.

Georgia Tech won its first six games, but losses in its last two has dropped it to 6-2 SU (4-3-1 ATS) overall and 3-2 SU in the Coastal Division. The Yellow Jackets have also fallen out of all three major polls after climbing to as high as No. 12 a few weeks back. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their eight games this season.

While Georgia Tech’s offense has basically ground to halt as far as scoring with just 28 combined points against Virginia and Miami, its ground game remains extremely potent with an average of 321.1 yards a game. Three different backs have already rushed for over 450 yards led by Orwin Smith’s 516 yards on just 42 carries. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Clemson is 7-0 ATS in its last seven conference games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in nine of its last 12 games in the ACC.

Georgia Tech is 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games as a home underdog and the total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of its last nine games in the conference.

Head-to-head in this series, the road team is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 games. The Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last six trips to Bobby Dodd Stadium and the total has stayed under in five of the last seven meetings overall.

Clemson comes into game playing at an extremely high level while Georgia Tech’s early success has suddenly disappeared. Stick with the Tigers to exploit this edge with a huge win on the road that easily covers the 3.5-point spread.

The Pick: Clemson 28  vs.   Georgia Tech 17
