UTEP has battled its way to a 2-1 start with 31-24 OT victory over Stony Brook as a 13.5-point home favorite and a 16-10 win over New Mexico State as a 2.5-point road favorite, wrapped around a 28-17 loss to SMU as a 20-point road underdog. The total stayed ‘under’ in all three games.

Nick Lamaison started the season at quarterback, but injured his shoulder against SMU and was replaced by Javia Hall, who threw for just 124 yards in last week’s win over the Aggies. He completed a dismal 32.1 percent of his passes, while throwing an interception and getting sacked twice. In lieu of a passing game, the Miners will be hard-pressed to turn to a rushing attack that is averaging 83.7 yards a game.

South Florida got off to an impressive start with a 23-20 upset of Notre Dame as a 10.5-point road underdog. The total stayed ‘under’ the 47-point total. The Bulls went on to crush both Ball State and Florida A&M by the combined score of 107-24 to run their record to 3-0. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Quarterback B.J. Daniels has completed 67 percent of his passes for 869 yards and six touchdowns, while running back Darrell Scott has rushed for 261 yards and four TD’s with an average of 7.5 yards a carry. South Florida’s defense is ranked 24th in the nation in points allowed; giving up an average of just 14.7 a game.

The Miners are 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games following a straight-up win and the total has stayed ‘under’ in four of their last five games overall. The Bulls are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against Conference-USA and the total has stayed ‘under’ in 10 of their last 12 non-conference games.

This one could get ugly early as South Florida is quickly establishing itself as the class of the Big East this season. Do not worry about the huge spread as the Bulls easily win and cover the 29 points.

The Pick: South Florida 49 vs. Texas El Paso 13
