Kansas St. Wildcats vs. Oklahoma St. Cowboys Week 6 Betting Predictions & Preview

KSU vs OSU NCAA Football Odds

The Oklahoma State Cowboys were caught by surprise last week when they fell to the unranked West Virginia Mountaineers 30-21 on the road. WVU took out its frustration on the Cowboys following its 37-0 loss the week before, and now OSU will look to do the same to Kansas State.

Both of these teams have something to prove, and luckily for OSU, it has home-field advantage.

Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State has found a good balance between offensive and defensive dominance this season. It is averaging 39.3 points per game, which is the 31st-best mark in the nation, and they’re giving up just 17.8, which puts them at 28th.

On offense, it begins with the passing attack. The team is 17th in the country in passing yards per contest, as J.W. Walsh has thrown for nearly 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns thus far.

Against Kansas State, third-down conversions will be an area where the team looks to improve following last week’s loss. The Cowboys converted just six of their 20 attempts. The team had averaged 26 first downs per contest up to that point, but managed just 18 against West Virginia.

Kansas State

If you’re Kansas State, priority No. 1 becomes putting pressure on J.W. Walsh. The sophomore quarterback threw 20-for-47 last week, which was a drastic drop from the 70.2 percent he was completing leading up to last week. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Wildcats have been a middle-of-the-pack defensive group up to this juncture, as they’re giving up 22.3 points per contest (No. 48 in the country). OSU is going to be ready following its loss, meaning Kansas State must be ready to step it up a notch on that side of the field.

As much as the Wildcats want—and need—to focus on the passing game, it must also defend the run. Oklahoma State looked extremely limited last week in the rushing game, which helps create a blueprint for KSU to make the Cowboys a one-dimensional team in Week 6. The problem is that the Wildcats are the eighth-worst team in the Big 12 at defending the run, and OSU will look to take advantage of that.

When it comes to last year’s battle between these two teams, throw it out the window. Walsh didn’t play for OSU because of an injury and the Wildcats were the No. 3 team in the country en route to a Fiesta Bowl appearance against the Oregon Ducks.

Entering this contest, Kansas State has the advantage of coming off of a bye week. Unfortunately for them, Oklahoma State is motivated and has home-field advantage.

OSU went into last week’s contest as three-touchdown favorites, but ultimately dropped the ball. This time the team is inspired, and it should be able to pull away with a solid comeback victory.

Score Prediction: Oklahoma State 38 – Kansas State 24
