Oklahoma ran into a buzzsaw in their Thursday night showdown with Baylor, losing that contest, 41-12.

The Oklahoma defense had a ton of trouble defending the run in that game, allowing Baylor to churn out 255 yards on the ground. Running back Shock Linwood ran for 182 yards on 23 carries for an average of 7.9 yards per tote.

Another 45 yards came from quarterback Bryce Petty, who also scored twice on the ground. Petty threw for three more touchdowns, completing 13 of 26 passes for 204 yards, completing passes to only three different pass-catchers. All told, Oklahoma surrendered 459 yards of offense. The lone bright spot for the unit came early in the second quarter when Dominique Alexander sacked Bryce Petty in the endzone for a safety.

On the other side, the Sooners weren’t able to get much done offensively. The team compiled just 237 yards of offense. Quarterback Blake Bell completed just 15 of 35 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. The Sooner running game was never able to get going either, compiling just 87 yards on 34 totes for an average of 2.6 yards per tote.

Iowa State’s last contest was far more competitive. The Cyclones fell to a good Horned Frogs team at home by a score of 21-17, but deserve more credit than that after carrying a 17-14 lead into the fourth quarter of that game. Quarterback Grant Rohach completed just 18 of 38 passes for 148 yards, and the team’s ground game churned out just 110 yards, averaging 2.6 yards per carry.

It was the Cyclone defense that stepped up in the game. The unit limited the Horned Frogs to just 3.2 yards per carry and picked off quarterback Casey Pachall twice, but couldn’t hold in the fourth quarter with the game on the line. Horned Frogs running back Trevon Boykin was able to punch the ball into the endzone from just a yard out to put TCU ahead for good with just 38 seconds remaining in the game.

The Sooners are certainly giving away plenty of points in this one, but they’ll look to grind the Cyclones into the ground after their loss to the Bears. The team has been tremendous defensively this season, and shouldn’t need to score much more than the spread of the game. The added prep time will also allow head coach Bob Stoops to get all his ducks in a row and leave his players ready to come out firing on all cylinders.

The Sooners are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings between these teams.

The play: Oklahoma -24.5
