Hawaii vs BYU Odds & Prediction

BYU has lost their last 2 games, but they are back at home where they are 2-0 this season. Hawaii has lost 2 of their last 3 games and they are a weak team on both sides of the ball.

Hawaii Warriors vs. BYU Cougars Preview

NCAAF lines have the Cougars as big 27.5-point home favorites with a total of 50.5.

One of the reasons BYU is such a big favorite is that they have a solid defense ranking 13th in the nation while Hawaii has a terrible defense ranking 119th in the nation giving up an average of 40 ppg.

In their last games BYU played great D, but still lost 7-6 to a ranked Boise State team and Hawaii was embarrassed losing at home 69-24 to Nevada.

On the young season Hawaii is 1-2 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 1-1 and BYU is 2-2 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-2.

The Warriors do not have a good passing offense or rushing offense and they have only scored 34 points in their 2 games, both losses, facing D1 teams. QB Sean Schroeder has nearly 600 passing yards with 6 TD, but he also has 4 INT. He has a decent, at best, WR corps and for Hawaii to have any chance to win this game he will have to play well. Will Gregory has played pretty well so far this season and averaged at least 4.8 yards per game in the games facing USC and Nevada. However, he will have a tough time running the ball facing BYU and their 9th ranked rushing defense.

While BYU does not have a dynamic offense at least they are well balanced ranking 73rd in the nation in passing yards per game and 81st in rushing yards per game.

Starting Cougars’ QB Riley Nelson had 3 picks in the loss to Boise State and was yanked in favor of backup Taysom Hill, who led BYU to a TD. Nelson has a back injury and Hill may get the starting nod in this game.

After averaging over 4 yards per carry in his first 2 games RB Michael Alisa has averaged less than 4 yards per carry in his last 2 games. I look for him to get back on track facing a Hawaii run defense that gave up 355 rushing yards in their loss to Nevada.

In some betting trends for this non conference game Hawaii is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall, 2-7 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games, and they have an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 games.

BYU is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games, and they have an Under record of 6-2 in their last 8 home games.

Jason’s Pick: Even giving 27.5 points I have to go with BYU, as their D will stymie the Warriors and Hawaii’s weak offense will give up a ton of points yet again.
