Handicapping AP Top 25: NCAA Football Top 10 – Week 14 Betting Preview

Week 14 AP Top 25

The Week 14 AP Poll doesn’t feature a lot of movement near the top with many of the top teams in the nation either getting the week off or facing cupcake matchups.

The voters saw enough to push Baylor ahead of TCU, if only by a hair, and Ole Miss was knocked out of the top 10 with their loss to Arkansas.

As always stay tuned to Cappers Picks blog all NCAA Football betting season long. Tons of free picks and analysis posted daily.

1. Florida State Seminoles (11-0, previous: 1)

Florida State had far more trouble with Boston College than it should have. The Seminoles get Florida next, then Georgia Tech in the ACC title game. There are a lot of people that would love to see them lose one of those games and get bounced from the playoff.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide (10-1, previous: 2)

Alabama made short work of Western Carolina, even if they did have a bit of a scare in the early going in that one. There are clearly still some trust issues between Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin, but they’ll need to get those sorted out in short order with Auburn on deck.

3. Oregon Ducks (10-1, previous: 3)

Oregon lit up Colorado and appears to be well on its way to the inaugural College Football Playoff. A trip to Oregon State won’t be a cake walk, but the Ducks have enough firepower to get by in that one. After that, they’ll only need to knock off whoever survives the Pac-12 South to punch their ticket.

4. Mississippi State (10-1, previous: 4)

Mississippi State beat Vanderbilt to a pulp over the weekend. They certainly need style points, but rivalry week’s results will likely determine whether they qualify for the playoff or not. They’ll need to beat Ole Miss and then cheer on Auburn.

5. Baylor Bears (9-1, previous: 6)

The Baylor offense was in fine form against Oklahoma State, though their defense left a lot to be desired. The Bears need to score style points in bunches to stay ahead of TCU. They get Texas Tech next and close out their season with a good game against Kansas State.

6. TCU Horned Frogs (9-1, previous: 5)

TCU was idle this past week after their scare at Kansas. They have two regular season games remaining to score some style points. With Baylor having already passed then in the AP poll, the Horned Frogs need to hope the selection committee doesn’t make the same mistake.

7. Ohio State Buckeyes (10-1, previous: 7)

Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett had another strong outing against Indiana as he continues to make the case for supplanting Braxton Miller next season. Ohio State closes out its regular season with a big time rivalry game against Michigan on Saturday.

8. Georgia Bulldogs (9-2, previous: 9)

The Bulldogs didn’t have much trouble getting by Charleston Southern on Saturday. Things will be a little harder on them this coming weekend as they look to match Georgia Tech’s elite rushing offense with a banged up backfield of their own.

9. UCLA Bruins (9-2, previous: 11)

The Bruins picked up a big win over USC on Saturday – maybe their biggest win of the season. They’re right in the hunt for the playoff, and figure to qualify if they can unseat Oregon in the Pac-12 title game. To get there, they still need to come up with a tough win over Stanford on Friday.

10. Michigan State Spartans (9-2, previous: 10)

Michigan State’s still lingering around the fringes of the top 10 despite effectively giving up all hope of qualifying for the playoff with a loss to Ohio State. The team really let an opportunity get away from them, as there’s no telling when another Connor Cook will come along.
