FSU Seminoles vs. Maryland Terrapins Gambling Prediction & Week 12 Preview

Seminoles vs Terrapins NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

The Florida State Seminoles are the 10th-ranked team heading into week 12, and if it weren’t for their one unexpected loss to North Carolina State in the middle of the season, they’d be a BCS contender at this point in the year.

The Maryland Terrapins, on the other hand, are coming off of four straight losses, and are looking to simply find a sliver of momentum after seeing their season turn from 4-2 half way through the year to 4-6 with just two games remaining.

Florida State Seminoles

The Florida State Seminoles have been one of the best teams in the country this season, as evident by their dominant stats on both sides of the ball. Offensively, this team averages 43.1 points, which has been good enough for 4th in the country. They have weapons all over the field, but it all starts with senior quarterback E.J. Manuel. The 6’5” man behind center is fifth in the nation in quarterback rating, as he’s tossed the ball for 19 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

The problem for opposing defenses is that the Seminoles are just as dangerous in the ground game. They rank 26th in the country in rushing yards per game (209.6), and they have seven players who have combined for 29 touchdowns on the ground this year. They have four players with at least five scores in the rushing game.

Defensively, the Seminoles are also dominant. They give up just 13 points per game, which is good enough for 4th in the nation. They’re 1st in the country in total yards allowed, 2nd in rushing yards and 6th in passing yards. Wherever Maryland comes attacking on Saturday, Florida State will be ready. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Maryland Terrapins

The Maryland Terrapins have proven to be a fairly middle-of-the-road defensive team this season. They managed to give up 45 points to Clemson last week, but their average of 24 points per game allowed is 43rd in the country. The problem is, even if their defense shows up, and they can somehow manage to hold Florida State below their season average, the Terrapins still have to put the ball in the end zone, which is something they have not been good at this season.

Maryland is one of the worst offensive teams in all of college football. They only average 18.9 points per contest, which is only good enough for 114th in the country, and they struggle in both the passing game and the rushing game. They record just 182.9 yards per game through their air (105th in the country) and just 101.4 yards per game on the ground (115th).

History has not been kind to Maryland in this matchup. In the last 10 contests, FSU has won eight times, including the last five. The last two games between these two programs have seen the Seminoles outscore the Terrapins 71-32.

On paper, this game belongs to Florida State every game of the week. Unfortunately for Maryland, that’s how it’s likely to play out on the field as well, and not even home-field advantage should be enoguh to save them against one of the most dominant teams in all of college football.
