Week 5: Tigers vs Rebels Picks

College football week 5 betting action sees the Memphis Tigers taking on the Ole Miss Rebels  on Saturday September 27 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, MS.  Cappers Picks provides free NCAA football handicapping tips all season long.

Ole Miss is undefeated but this is their last game non-conference game for a while. They invite a Memphis team that seems to be improving even if it is a bit hard to tell.

Memphis

This program is really on the cusp. A couple of weeks back they walked into Westwood and played the Bruins for 50 minutes.

They lost the game a 7 points but while most of the college football world was lamenting UCLA some were also noticing that this team might be a threat in the AAC.

Winning down in Oxford won’t be any easier than it was out on the coast but this team with a strong defensive mentality and an emerging offense could put a scare in the Rebels too.

If the Tigers do ultimately break through it will be in large part due to Paxton Lynch.

One of the biggest quarterbacks around at 6’7” he has shown remarkable improvement this season, completing a high percentage of his passes and limiting his turnovers.

Against UCLA he was brilliant and even at his size he is able to maintain some elusiveness. He is going to need it to evade the Rebels.

Ole Miss

The Rebels have had a strong start to 2014 and snuck all the way to just outside the top 10 of the rankings.

The have won easily over the likes of Boise State, Vanderbilt and Lafayette, covering each time and once again teasing that this might be the year they deliver on all that promise.

Memphis poses somewhat of a challenge but if they are truly ready to compete in the SEC they should shed them aside with ease.

Another win and cover certainly seems on order.

Bo Wallace is the key of course.

The senior QB with swagger has completed 75% of his passes this season, even higher if you include the 4 picks he has thrown through just three games. Thus far those mistakes have not been very costly but as the competition stiffens they will be. In this one he can afford an error or two but it would be encouraging for him to have a clean game.

His receiving weapons are top notch and the Tigers secondary will have their hands full.

NCAA Football Week #5 Prediction:  Memphis +19

Memphis will not threaten but I like them to cover in this one.

4* NCAAF Score prediction:  Ole Miss 38 – Memphis 24

It will probably come late in meaningless fashion but if you are on the Tigers you will hardly care.
