Both of these programs are coming off losses, but they were disappointing for different reasons. Oregon State lost a close one in double overtime to the Utah Utes, while Stanford fell hard to the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Oregon State

The Oregon State Beavers need to have a short memory after last week’s loss to Utah. Losing is never fun; losing like that sticks with you for a while if you don’t move on and focus on the next task at hand.

In this case, the task is defeating a vulnerable Stanford team on the road. If the Beavers are going to challenge Stanford, you have to believe it will be with the passing game. OSU is still just 103rd in the nation in rushing yards per game, and while the 45th ranking in passing yards per game is a far cry from where it was last year, it’s immensely better than the ground game.

The catch? OSU is going up against the nation’s second-best defense in terms of points allowed to opponents. This one won’t be easy, but the Cardinal appear to be down at this moment, and Oregon State will look to take advantage.

Stanford

It’s been a while since Stanford hasn’t been an elite program. That, however, is where we are entering Week 9, as the team has fallen out of the top 25 in the AP Poll.

Despite being the second-best defensive team in the nation (12.3 points per game allowed), this offense is stagnant at best. The team is averaging just 24 points per contest, which has only been good enough for 99th in the nation.

The one thing you can say about Stanford’s three losses is that all three have come against ranked opponents. The first came to then-ranked No. 14 USC, and the second was then-ranked No. 9 Notre Dame.

Last week was No. 17 Arizona State, but Week 9 features the Cardinal up against an unranked team in OSU.

  • Beavers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • Cardinal are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss.
  • Cardinal are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.

  • Cardinal are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games.

Week 9 NCAA Football

Recent betting trends are favorable for both programs. OSU and Stanford both look good ATS heading into the weekend, but only one can take it when the clock strikes zero.

Free NCAA Betting Pick 4* Oregon State 13.5

One of two things is going to happen in this one: Either the Beavers are going to expose Stanford as truly vulnerable, kicking them while they’re down, or they’re going to be in for the shock of their lives as Stanford bounces back with vengeance.

Although the latter is certainly possible, the 13.5-point spread seems high. Keep an eye on this number as the week progresses, but if it’s hanging around two touchdowns at game time, don’t be afraid to look at Oregon State ATS.
