Pac 12 Week 11: Washington vs. USC Preview & Prediction

Washington Huskies vs USC Trojans NCAA Football Odds

Division co-leader USC is set to take on the Washington Huskies in Los Angeles this week. The Trojans have won three of four, while Washington is reeling after losing two of its last three.

When: Saturday, 3:45 PM EST
Where: Los Angeles Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
TV: FX
LINE: -11.5(Washington), O/U 63.5

The Huskies have a pretty solid team this season. They are 6-3 overall, including 4-2 in the northern division. They are all but out of the title race though, which means at this point in the season, they are just playing for a better bowl.

They have a fairly balanced offensive attack, which generally is able to make defenses look worse than they actually are, because they can’t key in on one aspect. This was not the case a week ago though, as they were never really in their game against Oregon.

Washington will be hoping to turn things around this week against a below average USC defense, exploiting their weakness on Saturday.

Sophomore quarterback Keith Price is the man in charge of running the offense. He has had a very good season to this point, and has accumulated over 2,000 yards, while having a 2.5 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio. The numbers add up to 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

While he would like to tone down the pick numbers, they aren’t all that bad for a sophomore quarterback in his first year as a starter.

Because of the inexperience at QB, the Huskies rely mainly on junior running back Chris Polk to shoulder a good part of the offensive load. He is up over 1,000 yards on the season already, and has nine rushing touchdowns to go along with another three through the air. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

While the Huskies offense is capable, their issues lie on the defensive side of the ball.

They allow over 33 points a game, ranked 102nd in the nation. Couple that with the fact that they allow well over 400 yards per game (87th), and that’s just not a unit that will be able to slow down Southern California this weekend.

Washington will take on an offense that is equally balanced this week, as USC has a very potent running and passing game going for them. All of this is of course, led by junior quarterback Matt Barkley.

Barkley has passed for over 2,500 yards already this season, along with an incredible 28 passing touchdowns. He only trails Case Keenum (Houston) and Kellen Moore (Boise State) for being the best in the country.

The Trojans also have a pretty balanced attack on the ground as well. They only have seven touchdowns via the running game this season, but they do have two players with over 400 rushing yards so far. Curtis McNeal leads the way with 639 yards. Marc Tyler is the other go-to back in this department, with 438 yards since his suspension was lifted earlier in the year.

Matt’ s Prediction: USC 38, Washington 21–

There is a little hope for Washington in this one, as USC’s passing defense is absolutely atrocious. That being said, I still think USC’s offense will just be too much to overcome in this one at home.
