Pac 12 Week 12: Washington vs. Oregon State Preview & Prediction

UW Huskies vs OSU Beavers NCAA Football Odds

The Washington Huskies, who have lost two in a row, will look to get their season back on track this week as they head to Corvallis to face a struggling Oregon State team that come into this one with a record of just two wins, and eight losses.

When: Saturday, 3:30 PM EST
Where: Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR
TV: N/A
LINE: +2.5(Oregon State), O/U 58

The Huskies would probably liked to have come away with one win in their recent two game stretch of Oregon and USC, but that was not be. If they couldn’t win one of those games, the next best thing would to have good showings in those two, and well, they’re 0 for 2 on the checklist so far.

They lost those two games by a combined score of 74-34. A team of Washington’s caliber should not be losing like that. Yes, they are a young bunch, but they are more than capable of winning big games. They have failed to do that this season, as all four of their losses have come against ranked opponents.

This week they will face an Beavers’ program that is in shambles, and there is no doubt that the Huskies will look to get back on track against a team that they feel is not at their level of talent.

Washington is the better team in this game, but will they be able to show it on the field?

The Huskies have one thing OS doesn’t — a very balanced offensive attack. Something they weren’t really able to utilize lately due to playing constantly from behind. So it doesn’t really show in the rankings just how potent their rushing attack really is, or what it may be capable of. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Running back Chris Polk is a potential time bomb in the backfield. He has rushed for over 1,100 yards on the season and could be in line for a career performance day against the Beavers porous rushing defense. A unit that is giving up 183 yards on the ground per game. Good for a paltry 85th in the country.

While Oregon State’s pass defense may be able to slow down the air attack that the Huskies deploy, probably won’t matter if the Huskies can get off to a fast start, which will include keeping the ball in Polk’s hands.

Nevertheless, let’s not write off the Beavers just yet though.

While they do possess a below average defense, an awful running game, and don’t score many points, the Beavs do have one thing going for them though. They can throw the ball with the best of them.

The only downside to their air attack is the fact that QB Sean Mannion has thrown 15 interceptions, and has been sacked 18 times this season.

Something that the Huskies no doubt have taken note of, and will likely try to pressure the freshman into making some mistakes.

Matt’s Prediction: Washington 38, Oregon State 28–

This one could turn into a shoot out if Oregon State has their way. Neither defense is exactly good at keeping their opponent out of the end zone, and both are capable of scoring in bunches. Both teams also turn the ball over a lot, which leads to good field position.

Washington is the better team here, but this game is on the road, a place that hasn’t been to kind to them this season.

Still, I still think Washington is able to outgun the Beavers in this one.
