PAC-12 Football Preview | Washington v Utah

Huskies vs Utes NCAA Football Odds

The Huskies will travel to Utah on Saturday to play the first Pac-12 game inside Rice-Eccles Stadium, and Utah will be looking to show the PAC 12 that they have arrived with a big win over Washington.

Huskies v Utes
Venue/Stadium: Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, Utah
Time/Date: 7:00 PM ET, Saturday, October 1, 2011
NFL Odds From: Bet Online
Spread (ATS): Utah -7.5
Over/Under: 57

Washington has stormed out of the gates behind a solid start from QB Keith Price who’s well on his way to surpassing Jake Locker’s 17 TDs in 2010, already cashing in 14 of his own just four weeks into the 2011 season.

Price has come up big for Washington several times this campaign and recently did it again, throwing three touchdown passes as the host Huskies beat California 31-23 in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

But Price and the offense can’t take all the credit in this one, as the Huskies’ defense came up with a late goal-line stand to kill a Cal 87-yard drive in the final minutes. It was Washington’s third straight win over the Golden Bears.

Besides stopping the Bears defensively, Washington took advantage of some great field position due to sophomores RB Jesse Callier and WR Kevin Smith fielding five kickoffs for 143 yards. Washington will need their special teams to bring their “A game” on Saturday against the idle Utes who are coming off a brilliant 54-10 win at BYU. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Utes, despite a loss to USC in Week 2, are actually having a pretty good year and seem to be finding their game.

After leading by just 14 points at the half, Utah outscored the Cougars 40-0, taking advantage of six BYU fumbles.

Utah’s defense was suffocating, holding the Cougs to just 11 rushing yards on 22 carries.

All of Utah’s losses so far have been much closer than the final score, and they are 1-0 at home after dumping Montana State, while Washington’s only road test to date was a 51-38 loss at No. 8 Nebraska.

Matt’s Prediction: Utah 21, Washington 14–

With a week off, Utah will come in rested, and although their offense is probably less threatening, their defense is better, and at home the Huskies will have to play a near-perfect game to win in Salt Lake City. Look for QB Jordan Wynn to utilize the running talent of John White IV a lot in this one. It should be a close one, but the Utes will grind out a win on the ground in this one.
