Coincidentally, Stanford is also coming off a big loss to Oregon. That game came in Week 10 when they fell 45-16 (Oregon was ranked fifth at that juncture.

Utah

The Utah Utes began the 2014 season 6-1. Not bad, right?

Unfortunately, they’ve lost two in a row — one in close fashion to the Arizona State Sun Devils, and another in blowout fashion to the Ducks.

The good news is that Utah has successfully made itself relevant again. This is a team that struggled to compete early in its Pac-12 existence, but few will argue against the fact that it’s competitive at this point in the process.

So far this season, the Utes are 48th in both points scored and points allowed. The team is scoring 32.7 points per contest while giving up 24.6 to opponents.

Offensively, this team has struggled to compete through the air. The team is 48th in the nation in rushing, but just 98th in passing yards.

Stanford

So far this season, the Cardinal haven’t won more than two games in a row. They won’t break that trend this weekend, coming off a big loss, but it’s telling considering how dominant they’ve been the past few seasons.

Offensively, there’s nothing special about this team. Stanford is just 95th in scoring, posting 24.7 points per contest.

Breaking it down further, the team is 53rd in passing (247.6 yards per contest). It’s also 97th in rushing yards, compiling just 140.2 yards per game.

Defensively is where the Cardinal have found success. Stanford is fourth in the nation in points allowed, giving up just 16.1 points per contest.

The team is fifth in yards allowed, sixth in passing yards allowed and 11th in rushing yards allowed.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 10-3 in STAN last 13 conference games.
  • Under is 13-4 in STAN last 17 games overall.
  • UTAH are 7-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Week 12 NCAA Football

Both teams enter this one looking for bounce-back wins. Both teams lost big to the Ducks, and both need to show they’re capable of finishing the season on a strong note.

For that reason, expect a close one from beginning to end.

4* Free NCAA Betting Pick Utah +7

If Stanford can put together a solid offensive showing, it could certainly put together a win by more than one touchdown. However, that’s asking for a lot against a Utah team that is also giving up less than 25 points per game (Stanford’s 95th-ranked offense doesn’t help matters, either).

Expect a grind-it-out game with a low score. Don’t be shocked if Utah pulls out a win against the spread (as they’ve done often against teams with a winning record), even if they come up short straight up.
